Job Summary
The primary function of this position is to serve as an Instrument Operations Technician. The candidate should have basic process plant operations experience and skills in maintenance and troubleshooting in either process instrumentation & controls or electrical equipment.
Principal Responsibilities
Maintain company safety standards; participate in operations, maintenance, and safety meetings.
Apply hazardous work permit, lockout‑tagout (LOTO), and energy isolation procedures.
Follow management of change (MOC) procedures for process and operating changes.
Direct and monitor contractors.
Support plant inventory management.
Set up and safely operate tools and equipment needed for assigned work.
Prioritize and schedule work activities.
Perform and document calibration checks of process and product analyzers.
Instrumentation & Controls (once certified):
Troubleshoot instrumentation and control valves.
Troubleshoot process control systems.
Electrical (once certified):
Troubleshoot electrical systems.
Perform LOTO and confirm zero energy.
Process Operation and Efficiency
Assist in shutdowns, start‑ups, derimes, and production state changes for plants in the area.
Utilize a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) such as SAP.
Troubleshoot process problems to identify equipment requiring maintenance.
Perform water treatment analysis and related tasks.
Accept on‑call duty and overtime as needed.
Required Skills
Basic algebra, fractions/percentages, and unit conversion.
Personal computer proficiency.
Strong interpersonal skills to support team philosophy and strategy.
Ability to work independently.
Mechanical aptitude and use of basic hand tools.
Basic knowledge of chemical manufacturing hazards.
Understanding of electrical hazards and safety, with troubleshooting support.
Interpret engineering drawings including P&IDs and PFDs.
Complete basic preventive maintenance tasks.
Operate forklift, overhead crane, and/or man lift.
Certified to ISA Level 1 to qualify for instrumentation skills.
Certificate in a technical discipline, two‑year related degree, or recent military training considered in lieu of ISA Level 1 certification.
Obtain ISA Level 1 certification within two years of hire date.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED.
3 years relevant experience in process plant operations, maintenance, or reliability.
Physical ability to perform tasks including bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing ladders, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
Capability to climb to heights up to 200 ft above grade.
Valid driver’s license.
