Overview
A local public-sector organization focused on large-scale infrastructure and construction projects is seeking a Controller to support its accounting and finance operations. This is a hands-on role with a strong mix of technical accounting, audit support, and systems implementation work. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both technical accounting and systems/process improvement in a mission-driven environment.
Responsibilities
Oversee governmental accounting activities, ensuring compliance with applicable standards and regulations
Perform financial analysis to support budgeting, reporting, and operational decision-making
Support ERP system implementation, including configuration, testing, and data validation (Workday experience preferred)
Lead audit preparation efforts, including review of audit workpapers and addressing audit findings
Review and reconcile fixed assets and construction-in-progress (CIP) schedules
Evaluate existing accounting policies and procedures and recommend improvements for efficiency and compliance
Assist with financial reconciliations and ensure accuracy of system-generated reports
Partner with cross-functional teams to support system transitions and process improvements
Qualifications
Strong background in governmental or public sector accounting
Experience with ERP implementations or system upgrades (Workday a plus)
Knowledge of fixed assets and construction accounting (CIP)
Experience supporting audits and working with external auditors
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and process improvement skills
Ability to work onsite and collaborate with internal stakeholders
