Job Summary
The Grant Development Specialist 2 provides comprehensive administrative services, including research administration, budgetary and financial management, project planning and development, purchasing and procurement administration, and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
Manage approximately 35 departmental accounts (state, sponsored, and incentive funds), including budget development, tracking fiscal activity, compliance with federal, state, university, and sponsor requirements, and monthly account reconciliation.
Oversee the grant lifecycle from proposal to final funding reports, including interpreting funding opportunities, preparing and compiling grant applications for agencies such as NIH, DoD, AHA, ADA, JDRF, and ALA, coordinating subcontracts, and submitting through agency portals.
Prepare annual financial/progress reports, budgets, and grant closeout reports in accordance with university and agency processes, and facilitate grant transfers or changes of grantee across institutions.
Act as the primary post‑award contact for grant expenditures, processing budget amendments, ATBs, cost transfers, lab orders, invoices, and controlled substances.
Serve on the department’s research management team to monitor compliance and audit activities, guide procurement, and liaise with Purchasing, Financials, Asset Management, and IT.
Perform all other job‑related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field.
At least three years of experience in business, finance, accounting, or a related field.
Skills & Abilities
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related software/databases.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Detail‑oriented with strong accounting, prioritization, management, and organizational skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to work independently with limited supervision and meet deadlines.
Shift / Salary / Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday – Friday (occasional work outside normal business hours may be required).
Salary: $56,600 – $68,050 annually.
Pay Band: B11.
Benefits: health, dental, and life insurance; Teachers Retirement System (or Optional Retirement Plan); paid vacation, sick leave, and 13 paid holidays. Tuition Assistance Program may be available to eligible employees after six months of service.
