Job Summary
The Grant Development Specialist 2 is responsible for comprehensive administrative services including research administration, budgetary and financial management, project planning and development, purchasing and procurement administration, general administrative work, and ensuring compliance with regulatory policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

Manage ~35+ departmental accounts, including state, sponsored, and incentive funds; develop budgets, track fiscal activity, ensure allocation according to budget assignments and federal, state, university, and sponsor requirements; manage modifications, restrictions and reallocation of funds.

Approve expenditures, maintain, and reconcile accounts monthly; prepare monthly financial analysis and projections to support operations; produce reliable reports to leadership; allocate P‑Card purchases within the Works system.

Follow grant lifecycle from submission to final funding reports; interpret funding opportunity announcements to establish feasible budgets for staff, conferences, supplies & equipment, and F&A costs.

Prepare and compile grant application documents for VBC Predocs, Postdocs, Junior faculty & Principal Investigators, using agency systems and portals (NIH, DoD, AHA, ADA, JDRF, ALA). Coordinate subcontracts with other institutions/entities.

Prepare annual financial/progress reports and budgets for awards; submit through agency portals (Proposal Central, eRA Commons, InfoEd, Department of Defense, AHA). Prepare and submit grant closeout reports consistent with university and agency processes.

Facilitate transfer of grants or change of grantee across institutions, including equipment, protocols with IRB, animal biosafety, chemical safety, radiation safety, and research objective changes.

Serve as primary contact for post‑award on grant expenditures; prepare and process Budget Amendments, ATBs, and Cost Transfers. Process lab orders and invoices, including controlled substances and lab equipment services invoices.

Serve as key member of the department's research management team; monitor compliance and audit activities; guide staff award procurement and liaise with Purchasing, Financials, Asset Management, IT as needed.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business or a related field.

Three years of experience in business, finance, accounting or another related field.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

Detail‑oriented with strong accounting, prioritization, management, and organizational skills.

Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Ability to work independently with limited supervision, meeting deadlines.

Shift / Salary / Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday – Friday (outside normal business hours may be required).
Salary range: $56,600–$68,050 annually. Pay band: B11 (salary commensurate with qualifications within established range).
Recruitment period: Until Filled. Benefits include health, dental, life insurance, Teachers Retirement System or Optional Retirement Plan, earned vacation time, sick leave, 13 paid holidays, and tuition assistance after six months of employment.

Conditions of Employment

Successful background check review before employment.

Credit check required for positions of trust and/or approved departmental purchase card usage (P‑Card).

Motor vehicle reports required for positions that require driving university vehicles.

Faculty hires must provide proof of completed academic degrees and post‑secondary coursework; foreign‑trained candidates must provide credential evaluation.

Employees must safeguard confidentiality, availability, and integrity of sensitive information in accordance with cybersecurity and privacy policies.

Credit Check
The position requires acquisition of a P‑Card and/or handling cash, credit or other sensitive information and will require a satisfactory consumer credit check as a condition of employment.
