Job Overview
The Licensed Special Education Teacher develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities; evaluates and monitors student progress; follows state and federal due process procedures and serves as IEP case manager.

Responsibilities

Coordinate and direct activities of teacher assistants.

Plan, organize and present instruction that supports students’ learning and social development.

Prepare and maintain instructional materials, supplies, and equipment for each lesson.

Establish and enforce classroom rules and procedures for behavior, verbal participation, and movement; monitor behavior during all activities and transitions.

Deliver instructional presentation: review prior content, introduce objectives, provide clear explanations, examples, demonstrations, assignments, questioning, and closing summary.

Monitor student performance: circulate, check work, use oral and written assessments, and provide timely feedback.

Offer instructional feedback encouraging growth; give prompt responses and supports for incorrect answers.

Facilitate instruction consistent with school and system‑wide curricula, using diagnostic data, aligning objectives, learning strategies, and assessment.

Interact with students, coworkers, parents and community in a fair and equitable manner.

Carry out non‑instructional duties as assigned and pursue professional growth.

Provide research‑based specialized instruction to meet IEP goals.

Assess progress, adjust instructional techniques, and use various teaching methods.

Develop and implement IEP plans, schedule meetings, coordinate services, and serve as primary parent contact.

Initiate evaluations, supervise assistants, comply with regulations, and complete reporting requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in education or related field that qualifies for North Carolina Special Education licensure.

Current North Carolina teaching license in Special Education with Adaptive Curriculum.

Knowledge of special education principles, practices, and procedures.

Physical & Other Requirements
Physical Requirements:

Use classroom equipment and computer; light work, lift, carry, push, pull, stand, walk.

Other Requirements:

Ability to compare data, communicate orally and in writing, apply logical reasoning, use mathematical formulas, operate office machines, coordinate hand‑eye, handle colors, adapt to stress and emergencies, communicate by telephone.

Additional Job Functions
Perform other related work as required.

Salary:

$3,700–$6,048 per month
