Teacher - EC (Inclusion) 2026-27
Purpose:

To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.

Duties and Responsibilities

Management of Instructional Time:

The teacher has materials, supplies, and equipment ready at the start of each lesson or instructional activity; gets the class started quickly; gets students on task quickly at the beginning of each lesson; maintains a high level of student time‑on‑task.

Management of Student Behavior:

The teacher has established a set of rules and procedures that govern routine administrative matters, verbal participation, and movement during various activities; monitors behavior during all teaching activities and transitions; stops inappropriate behavior promptly and consistently while maintaining student dignity.

Instructional Presentation:

The teacher begins the lesson with a review of previous materials, introduces learning objectives, speaks fluently, presents concepts understandably, uses relevant examples and demonstrations, assigns tasks with a high success rate, asks appropriate questions, conducts at a brisk pace adjusting as needed, makes smooth transitions, ensures assignments are clear, and summarizes main points.

Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance:

The teacher maintains clear work standards, circulates during classwork to check all students’ performance, uses oral, written, and other work products to assess progress, poses questions clearly and one at a time.

Instructional Feedback:

The teacher provides feedback on in‑class work to encourage growth, offers prompt feedback for out‑of‑class work, affirms correct responses, and provides sustaining feedback after incorrect or no responses by probing or giving clues.

Facilitating Instruction:

The teacher has an instructional plan compatible with system‑wide goals, uses diagnostic data to develop and revise objectives and tasks, keeps accurate performance records, aligns objectives, strategies, assessment, and student needs at appropriate difficulty, and uses available resources to support the program.

Interacting Within the Educational Environment:

The teacher treats all students fairly, and interacts effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, and the community.

Performing Non‑Instructional Duties:

The teacher carries out assigned non‑instructional duties, follows laws, policies, and regulations, and demonstrates evidence of professional development progress.

Additional Job Functions:

Performs other related work as required.

Minimum Training and Experience
Degree in education or a related area that qualifies for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Must not be on the NCDPI list of teachers no longer qualified to teach and must not be currently engaged in a certification revocation hearing process.

Minimum Qualifications or Standards

Physical Requirements:

Ability to use various equipment and classroom tools; lift, carry, push, pull objects with negligible force; consistent with light work.

Data Conception:

Ability to compare and judge functional characteristics of data, people, or things.

Interpersonal Communication:

Ability to convey information and receive instructions.

Language Ability:

Read correspondence, reports, handbooks; prepare simple reports, forms, and instructional materials using prescribed formats.

Intelligence:

Apply logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions; interpret technical instructions.

Verbal Aptitude:

Record and deliver information, explain procedures, follow oral and written instructions; communicate in professional terminology.

Numerical Aptitude:

Use mathematical formulas, percentages, and statistics.

Form/Spatial Aptitude:

Inspect items for proper dimensions.

Motor Coordination:

Coordinate hands and eyes rapidly using office equipment.

Manual Dexterity:

Handle various items with minimal coordination.

Color Discrimination:

Differentiate colors and shades.

Interpersonal Temperament:

Adapt to stress and emergencies.

Physical Communication:

Talk and hear; communicate via telephone.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Constantly monitor the safety and well‑being of students, especially in inclusive activities.

Motivate students.

Maintain a clean and orderly environment; perform general clerical duties.

Maintain order and discipline in the classroom.

Operate common office machines.

Maintain basic files and records.

Understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships as required.

Position Type:

Full‑Time

Salary:

$3,700 to $6,048 Per Month

Job Requirements

Bachelor degree preferred.

Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
