Responsibilities

A. MAJOR FUNCTION: Management of Instructional Time

The teacher has materials, supplies, and equipment for each lesson ready at the start of the lesson or instructional activity; gets the class started quickly; gets students on task quickly at the beginning of each lesson; maintains a high level of student time‑on‑task.

B. MAJOR FUNCTION: Management of Student Behavior

The teacher has established a set of rules and procedures that govern the handling of routine administrative matters; governs student verbal participation and talk; governs student movement; monitors behavior; stops inappropriate behavior promptly while maintaining student dignity.

C. MAJOR FUNCTION: Instructional Presentation

The teacher reviews previous materials, introduces new lessons, speaks fluently, presents concepts, provides examples, assigns tasks, asks questions, maintains brisk pace, transitions smoothly, and summarizes main points.

D. MAJOR FUNCTION: Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance

The teacher maintains standards, circulates during classwork, checks performance, uses written and oral assessment, and poses questions clearly.

E. MAJOR FUNCTION: Instructional Feedback

The teacher provides feedback on in‑class and out‑of‑class work, affirms correct responses, and sustains feedback after incorrect responses.

F. MAJOR FUNCTION: Facilitating Instruction

The teacher uses instructional plans, diagnostic information, records, and available resources to support instruction.

G. MAJOR FUNCTION: Interacting Within the Educational Environment

The teacher treats students fairly and interacts effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, and the community.

H. MAJOR FUNCTION: Performing Non‑Instructional Duties

The teacher carries out assigned non‑instructional duties, adheres to laws and policies, follows a professional development plan, and demonstrates growth.

Additional job functions: Performs other related work as required.

Qualifications
Minimum Training and Experience
Degree in education or a related area that qualifies for licensure by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Not listed on the NCDPI list of teachers no longer qualified or undergoing a certification revocation hearing.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to use equipment, lift, carry, push, pull objects with negligible force; consistent with Light Work.

Data Conception:

Ability to compare and judge functional characteristics of data, people, or things.

Interpersonal Communication:

Ability to convey information, receive instructions, and interact with superiors.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and prepare correspondence and instructional materials.

Intelligence:

Ability to apply logical thinking, define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.

Verbal Aptitude:

Ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, and communicate in professional terminology.

Numerical Aptitude:

Ability to use mathematical formulas, percentages, and statistics.

Form/Spatial Aptitude:

Ability to inspect items for length, width, shape.

Motor Coordination:

Ability to coordinate hands and eyes with office equipment.

Manual Dexterity:

Ability to handle office and hand tools.

Color Discrimination:

Ability to differentiate colors.

Interpersonal Temperament:

Ability to deal with people, adapt to stress, and respond to emergencies.

Physical Communication:

Ability to talk and hear, including telephone communication.

Constantly monitor student safety and well‑being during inclusive activities.

Motivate students.

Maintain a clean and orderly environment.

Perform general clerical duties.

Maintain order and discipline in a classroom.
