General Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) delivers direct patient care by applying the nursing process with clinical expertise tailored to psychiatric nursing. Adherence to the ANA Code of Ethics and hospital policies ensures safe, high-quality care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Implement patient safety protocols including infection prevention, safe handling, and critical lab notifications to maintain a secure care environment.
- Manage central lines and prevent surgical site infections following established guidelines.
- Administer medications, perform nursing interventions, and provide education to patients and families to support recovery and health outcomes.
- Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessments to monitor status, enhance safety, and inform the healthcare team.
- Document all care activities and quality measures accurately to support clinical decisions.
- Communicate effectively with physicians and team members to optimize patient outcomes.
- Delegate tasks appropriately while fostering teamwork and accountability.
- Engage patients and families with timely communication and education to improve their healthcare experience.
- Apply critical thinking in nursing practice and pursue continuing education to enhance skills.
Education
Graduation from an accredited nursing program is required.
Experience
At least one year of nursing experience is preferred.
Requirements
- Current RN license valid in the state or through Compact Licensure.
- Graduate nurses must obtain licensure within 90 days of graduation.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Mental and Physical Demands
This role requires significant mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 lbs., standing, walking, and various movements such as pushing, pulling, and reaching.
Working Conditions
Frequent exposure to infectious and communicable diseases through blood and bodily fluids is expected. Occasional encounters with hostile individuals may occur.
