General Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) in Psychiatry is responsible for delivering quality nursing care, including medication administration, nursing interventions, and patient and family education. This role requires adherence to safety protocols and hospital policies to ensure an optimal care environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Follow established safety measures such as infection prevention, safe patient handling, and critical lab notifications.
  • Maintain and care for central lines and prevent surgical site infections according to policy.
  • Perform initial and ongoing patient assessments to monitor status and improve outcomes.
  • Document all patient care activities and quality monitoring items to support clinical decisions.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, team members, patients, and families to enhance care and education.
  • Delegate tasks appropriately while fostering teamwork and accountability.
  • Engage in continuing education to develop nursing skills and critical thinking.
Education

Graduate of an accredited nursing school is required.

Experience

One year of nursing experience is preferred.

Certification and Licensure
  • Current RN license in a Compact State or the state of employment.
  • Graduate nurses must obtain licensure within 90 days of graduation.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Mental and Physical Requirements

This role requires considerable mental concentration and physical activity including lifting up to 35 lbs., standing, walking, and other movements necessary for patient care.

Working Conditions

Frequent exposure to infectious and communicable diseases through blood and bodily fluids. Occasional encounters with hostile individuals may occur.
