Job Summary: Performs various duties within the Micro Market and vending machines including but not limited to functionality and operation of machines, availability of products, money changing machines, and payment kiosk, ensuring maintenance upkeep of machines as required. Sells general merchandise to customers exercising professional selling techniques, providing service which anticipates and exceeds customer expectations. Operates a motor vehicle throughout the geographical area and on public roads in connection with performance of job duties.

Duties and Responsibilities

Maintains Exchange owned machines and micro markets daily; inspects and replenishes products including sandwiches, cakes, pies, popcorn, salads, fruits, pastry, sodas, yogurt, laundry detergent, etc.; ensures perishable items meet shelf‑life dates, documents removal of expired food, sanitizes areas, and removes aged or spoiled merchandise.

Greets and engages customers in conversation for purpose of providing sales assistance and opinions regarding available or sought‑after items; assists customers in selection of merchandise and suggests additional items to complement their selections.

Ensures assigned areas are fully stocked and merchandise is neatly arranged; communicates with supervisor regarding stock additions, deletions, fast and slow selling merchandise, customer preferences, needs, and problems.

Participates in department meetings and actively seeks to exchange ideas regarding improvements in customer service, job performance, and achievement of sales goals.

Sets up and maintains prices and all Exchange branded visual programs in micro markets and applicable machines, keeping current price lists for products sold.

Maintains the micro market in a clean and orderly manner; sweeps, mops floors, cleans countertops, wipes down coolers, empties trash cans.

Assists with resetting merchandise in the micro market annually to ensure product adjacencies, branding, and placement standards are adhered to.

Utilizes laptop, tablet, scanner, handheld, or other electronic devices for inventory receiving and ordering within the micro market.

Relocates and installs new machines at locations; cleans interior and exterior using appropriate cleaning solutions; makes settings and adjustments on food dispensing, liquid dispensing, and coin changer units.

Collects money from vending machines, micro market kiosks, or other miscellaneous machines at scheduled times; accompanies vending contractors to verify cash taken from vendor owned machines.

Ensures all information recorded during machine servicing is captured via computer‑handheld devices, records product counts, and prepares Vending Machines Cash Collection Slip SS‑411 for each location.

Clears coin jams and makes refunds at designated locations as required.

Maintains inventory control across micro markets, trucks, routes, and both vending and micro market systems.

Collects turn‑in money bags daily from Cash Handling Clerks, counts cash, verifies receipt, prepares Daily Cash Receipt SS‑120, and arranges deposits per procedures; receives bills from Cash Handling Clerk and purchases coins from Cashier’s Cage Navy Exchange.

Interacts with customers and coworkers professionally, adhering to NEX dress code, uniform standards, and assisting other vending team members as needed.

Develops knowledge regarding merchandise, including setup, use, care, and characteristics; communicates product‑related information to customers clearly.

Operates a motor vehicle throughout the geographical area in connection with duties; loads/unloads merchandise by hand or dolly; prepares and maintains daily trip report of all trips.

Adheres to and coordinates preventive maintenance schedule (oil change, tune‑up, brakes, etc.) with designated NEX personnel; maintains fuel levels, retains receipts, and keeps vehicle interior clean and free of debris.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical Effort
Regularly lifts and transports moderately heavy objects weighing up to 40 lbs, occasionally handling heavier items with assistance or material‑handling equipment. Requires regular walking, bending, and reaching.

Working Conditions
Work performed both inside and outside; occasional exposure to bad weather while loading/unloading vehicle. Drives in all weather types and may be subject to cuts or bruises.

Job Requirements

Must possess a valid state driver’s license or a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL).

Must possess the knowledge and skills necessary to operate a motor vehicle safely.

Must be able to pass appropriate background checks required for the specific area of responsibility (e.g., Federal DOD Security Clearance).

Must pass the GSA defensive driving course.

General Experience
One year progressive responsible clerical, office, or retail sales work of any kind in which the applicant has demonstrated the ability to interact with customers.

Specialized Experience
One year of progressively responsible experience providing knowledge and skills in fundamentals of retail, including retail sales services, vending store operations, and warehouse operations.
