
Mechanical Technician Senior Second Shift – Millennium Space Systems

The Mechanical Technician will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks in support of fabrication, integration and test of space flight systems and support equipment. This position’s internal job code is Spacecraft Mechanical Technician Sr. and the team is hiring for grade 24.
Position
Location: El Segundo, California (on-site only). Shift: primarily 2nd shift, with potential for additional shift requirements to support program objectives. Union: This is an hourly union-represented position governed by the Cabinet Makers, Millmen and Industrial Carpenters Union (CMM&IC Local 721). Security Clearance: Must be able to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship required; Interim and/or final Top Secret Clearance post-start may be required).
Responsibilities
Assembles, installs, tests, checks out and inspects mechanical spacecraft assemblies by interpreting blueprints, engineering drawings and specifications, and written assembly, integration, and test procedures.
Performs second party verifications and visually inspects mechanical assemblies to drawings, engineering specifications, and written assembly, integration, and test procedures.
Operates various materials handling equipment including forklifts, overhead cranes, aerial lift equipment, flight vehicle and sub-assembly transportation equipment, truck/tractor trailer combinations and other GSE as required.
Operates a wide range of machine tools (e.g., drill press, grinders, chop saw, power and hand tools).
Interacts with Design and Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing, Materials, Procurement and Shipping on procedural issues involving design, methods, tooling, cost, and other areas involved in the control of product quality.
Supports other mechanical areas defined by Millennium Space Systems Leadership as business needs require.
Cross-trains/mentors new hires.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
High School Diploma or GED
More than 5 years of experience with Structures Assembly, Mechanical Assembly, Electrical Assembly, and/or Final Assembly
More than 3 years of experience following written and verbal work instructions
More than 3 years of experience with blueprints, specifications, assembly drawings, and standard operating procedures
More than 3 years of experience using precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators)
More than 3 years of experience with materials such as adhesives, composites, epoxy, fabrics, honeycomb core, laminates/plastics, resins
Ability to stand and move to handle products for extended periods with short breaks
Capable of lifting 20 lbs or more on a frequent basis
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
More than 3 years of experience using structures hand tools, test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and shears
More than 3 years of experience with Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
More than 3 years of experience in a 100,000 Class Clean Room environment
More than 5 years of experience building component-level space products (e.g., avionics boxes, batteries, mechanisms, optics, PCBA, solar arrays)
More than 5 years of experience with mechanical troubleshooting, disassembly and repair

Security Clearance: U.S. Citizenship required; Interim/Final Top Secret clearance post-start may be required.
Travel: Position may require travel up to 5% of the time.

Compensation & Benefits
Summary Pay Range: $29.42 - $47.09. Millennium Space Systems provides eligibility for a variety of benefit programs including health insurance, flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance, and paid/unpaid time away from work. Pay is based on candidate experience, qualifications, and market conditions. Some programs depend on location, hire date, and collective bargaining agreements.
