Surgery - Cardiovascular Physician Assistant

Seeking 1 2 Physician Assistants for Cardiothoracic Surgery inpatient coverage, with an immediate start preferred.

Practice Setting

• Inpatient, hospital-based cardiothoracic surgery service

• No trauma designation

Clinical Volume

• Assist in 2 cardiac surgeries per day

• Round on 5 12 ICU and floor patients daily

• Includes consults

Schedule

• Weekday in-house shifts: 8 10 hours (Monday Friday)

• Night call: 6 PM 6 AM

• Weekend call: Friday 6 PM through Monday 6 AM

• Weekend rounding: 7 AM 12 PM Saturday and Sunday

• Mix of weekday, weekend, and night coverage required

Responsibilities

• First assist in cardiac surgery

• Endoscopic vein harvesting (EVH)

• Chest tube insertions

• Retrieval of vascular tissues for bypass conduit

• Rounding and coordination of care

• Diagnosing and treating illness

• Ordering/interpreting tests

• Writing prescriptions

• Suture removal

Technology

• EMR: Cerner (experience preferred)

Credentialing

• Estimated timeframe: 60 days

• Immediate availability required

• Site cannot wait for providers to obtain a new license

Candidate Requirements

• NCCPA certified PA

• Active New Jersey license

• BLS and ACLS

• Minimum 2 3 years cardiac surgery experience

• Fully proficient in EVH

• Must actively function in the OR and participate in operative cases

• NPDB self-query dated within 30 days

• Drive-in candidates only (mileage/tolls reimbursed)
