Responsibilities

Performs routine storekeeping duties in a warehouse, canteen, commissary, or storeroom; operates a tool storeroom or gift shop; recommends new or modified storage methods; leads or supervises staff, offenders, residents engaged in loading, unloading, storing, or distributing inventory items.

Receives and unpacks incoming inventory items; inspects for quality and quantity; refers major decisions regarding non‑conformance with specifications to a designated supervisor; labels and places inventory items in appropriate storage areas; rotates as necessary; operates a cash register; counts money; prices items; places merchandise on shelves; operates forklifts, pallet jacks, or other material‑handling equipment.

Fills requisitions; prepares items for delivery or shipment; orders inventory using established specifications to replenish stock based on pre‑determined inventory levels or reorder points; maintains computerized or manual records of inventory items received, stored, issued, ordered, returned, disposed of, or sold.

Takes physical inventories to determine quantities on hand or reconcile records; maintains clean and orderly storage areas; exercises independence in the performance of duties under general supervision; performs other related work as assigned.

This position requires contact with offenders.

Minimum Qualifications

Two or more years of experience as a Stores Clerk with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System, AND possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

OR two or more years of experience maintaining inventory items and related records, AND possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for the required experience on a year‑for‑year basis at a rate of 30 earned credit hours for one year.

Additional Compensation

A $2.00 per hour shift differential if assigned to a shift that begins on or between 12:00 pm and 5:00 am and are employed at a 24/7 congregate care facility.

A $0.75 per hour maximum security stipend if working full‑time at a qualifying facility.

A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing stipend if assigned a regular post within a restrictive housing or segregation unit at any facility.

The Department of Corrections currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years.
