Your Specific Responsibilities
This is a Career Service, Senior Community Health Nursing Supervisor position within the Highlands County Health Department that represents the agency and its mission and values. The position will supervise the school nurses and techs that represent the Highlands CHD within the Highlands County School District. It promotes cooperation, courtesy, and teamwork in a diverse environment. The position is under the direct supervision of the Community Health Nursing Director and is classified as a sensitive position. Incumbent handles protected health information on a need‑to‑know basis following Department of Health Information Security and Privacy Policy and procedures.

The incumbent will supervise staff, manage the School Health budget, and oversee the comprehensive school health project. Responsibilities include:

Developing and updating the Comprehensive School Health Annual/Semi‑annual Plan and presenting to the District School Advisory Committee every two years or as needed.

Completing the annual school health report for submission to the DOH School Health Services Program per School Health Guidelines.

Maintaining confidentiality, security, privacy, and integrity of protected health information.

Formulating and maintaining school health policies and procedures with significant impact on personnel administration and budget.

Direct supervision of School Health staff, performance appraisals, planning and directing work assignments, approving leave, and certifying EARS/timesheets/travel documents per DOH policies and SMART objectives.

Participating in general policy and program formulation, evaluating program quality and productivity, and coordinating quality improvement and client satisfaction.

Managing Frontline 3rd party billing, claims, school health screenings, staff training, and back‑to‑school clinics.

Analyzing and planning community health projects, initiating and evaluating programs, serving on local committees such as the School District Advisory Committee, and acting as liaison with local school board and community partners.

Maintaining nursing license, continuing education, and protocols, and ensuring direct reports meet licensure and training requirements.

Assisting with TB program case management, home visits, immunizations, and related documentation.

Providing services to private schools upon request and availability.

Incumbent oversees a total of 16 schools. Travel is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Required for position:

Knowledge of nursing and public health principles, practices, and techniques.

Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.

Knowledge of community resources.

Ability to supervise people.

Ability to administer medications.

Ability to provide preventive health care and treatment to groups.

Ability to work with patients having a variety of physical problems.

Ability to determine work priorities, assign work, and ensure proper completion of work assignments.

Ability to communicate effectively.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Ability to teach basic health care.

Qualifications
Minimum qualification requirements:

Incumbent must hold a current, active Florida Registered Nursing license or a multistate license from another Compact State in accordance to FL Statute 464.

Leadership experience.

Florida driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.

Two years clinical nursing experience.
