Job Description:

The UF Health Cancer Institute is the 72nd NCI designated cancer center and the only one at a public university in the State of Florida. As a matrix cancer center, we span all of the University of Florida's 16 colleges, pulling together a world-class, multi-disciplinary membership of over 350 faculty and 150 staff to address the challenges of the cancer burden faced by the population we serve as we work together to find a cure.

As an

Application Database Administrator

at the UF Health Cancer Institute (UFHCI), you will be responsible for the development and implementation of the Institute's custom resources and tools to analyze and display the Institute's data, assist in critical analyses, and enhance reporting capabilities, design, and management of data systems for the Institute.

In your new role you will be responsible for the following:

Selecting and applying appropriate analytical methods to answer questions and test hypotheses as specified by clinical researchers, administrators, and clinicians.

Designing, coding, testing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting application software for use by Administration and leadership.

Identifying and analyzing problems, testing and debugging code, and troubleshooting applications.

Drafting technical documentation (designs, specifications, systems processes, etc.).

Learning and applying best of breed industry standards of analysis and development methodologies and for data management and quality control.

Retains a high level of expertise in data management techniques as well as university business processes through training opportunities and individual research.

This role is ideal for entry- or early-career candidates with experience in application development and/or systems analysis with a diverse skillset in data management, systems analysis, and application development. A complete job description will be provided to candidates selected for interview.

Application Database Administrator I:

Knowledge/Experience:

Some experience, education, and/or training in database development or a similar area of expertise.

Foundational exposure to data systems, reporting, or application support in research, healthcare, or higher education environments

Skills/Abilities:

Basic understanding of relational databases and SQL querying

Ability to troubleshoot simple data or system issues and support documentation/reporting tasks

Strong willingness to learn new tools and technologies in a fast‑paced environment

Application Database Administrator II:

Knowledge/Experience:

3–5 years of experience in systems analysis, development, or database/application support

Experience in higher education, healthcare, research, or similarly complex environments

Skills/Abilities:

Familiarity with Windows, Mac OS, and Linux operating systems

Preferred:

Knowledge/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field

Experience in higher education, healthcare, clinical research, or similar complex environments

Exposure to reporting/analytics tools such as Tableau or Power BI

Qualities:

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Effective communicator with both technical and non‑technical audiences

Collaborative, team‑oriented mindset with professionalism

Skills/Abilities:

Exposure to scripting or markup languages (Python, HTML, XML)

Interest in data visualization, reporting tools, or clinical/EMR data systems

Application Database Administrator II:

Knowledge/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field

Experience with clinical trials systems, EMR data feeds, or healthcare data standards

Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI) and BI/reporting systems

Qualities:

Strong technical writing and communication skills for non‑technical audiences

Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize deadlines, and work independently

Demonstrated emotional intelligence, adaptability, and problem‑solving mindset

Skills/Abilities:

Ability to design and support multi‑tier applications and system integrations

Strong UI/UX awareness and ability to present data clearly to stakeholders

Advanced data analysis and reporting skills for leadership presentations
