Location & Travel Requirements
This is a field-based role supporting exploration drilling operations across the Western United States. The position requires extensive travel (up to 80%), including remote site visits, customer locations, and occasional travel to Boart Longyear facilities and warehouses.
Role Overview
The Technical Representative – Rock Tools provides hands‑on technical support and expertise to customers using Boart Longyear’s diamond drilling tools and rock tooling products. The role focuses on field performance optimization, troubleshooting, customer enablement, and technical feedback to improve product reliability and drilling efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Field Technical Support
Provide onsite technical support for diamond bits, core barrels, rods, and related rock tools.
Conduct field inspections, performance evaluations, and servicing of drilling tooling.
Troubleshoot downhole tooling issues and recommend corrective actions.
Tool Performance & Optimization
Analyze wear patterns, failure modes, and drilling performance data.
Identify root causes of tool inefficiencies and provide optimization recommendations to extend tool life and improve drilling performance.
Customer Training & Enablement
Deliver onsite training to drilling contractors and exploration teams on correct tool usage, handling, maintenance, and best practices.
Act as a trusted technical advisor to improve customer operational performance.
Field Trials & Product Validation
Support introduction of new products through field trials and validation programs.
Install and monitor tooling performance during trials and capture structured field data.
Provide detailed feedback to engineering and product teams.
Technical Reporting & Feedback Loop
Document field service activities, performance issues, and customer feedback in reporting systems.
Communicate insights and technical observations to internal stakeholders to support continuous product improvement.
Inventory & Equipment Management
Maintain and manage field service kits, tooling inventory, and diagnostic equipment.
Ensure readiness of technical tools required for field servicing and evaluation work.
Other Duties
Perform other related duties as assigned to support business and customer needs.

Mechanical & Technical Aptitude:
Strong understanding of drilling systems, rock tooling, and downhole wear mechanisms.
Field Problem Solving:
Ability to independently diagnose and resolve technical issues in remote and challenging environments.
Customer Focus:
Strong service mindset with the ability to build credibility and long‑term customer trust.
Communication Skills:
Clear and effective verbal and written communication for training delivery and technical reporting.
Industry Knowledge:
Familiarity with exploration drilling operations and diamond coring systems strongly preferred.
Adaptability:
Comfortable working in dynamic field conditions, changing priorities, and harsh environments.
Qualifications
Education
High school diploma or GED required.
Technical certification or training in mechanical systems, drilling technology, or related trades is an advantage.
Experience
2–5 years of field experience in drilling services, tooling support, mechanical maintenance, or related technical roles.
Experience in exploration drilling or diamond tooling strongly preferred.
Languages
English required.
Spanish is an asset.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
Primarily field-based role across exploration sites in varying weather conditions, including dust, noise, and remote environments.
Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment up to 75 lbs regularly.
Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and physically active fieldwork required.
