Controls Design Engineer – Building Automation Systems

Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Controls Design Engineer to support the design and delivery of Building Automation Systems for large, complex facilities. This role focuses on producing high-quality, constructible controls designs that align with project standards, operational intent, and real-world installation constraints.
The ideal candidate mirrors the manager’s mindset: technically sharp, detail-driven, and capable of thinking beyond diagrams to how systems are actually built, commissioned, and maintained.
Key Responsibilities Control schematics and network layouts
Sequences of operation
Points lists and I/O documentation
Support projects in large, multi-building environments (airports, government, campuses)
Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, and IT stakeholders
Review and redline controls submittals for accuracy and constructability
Assist with standardization of design practices and templates
Support design manager with technical reviews and mentoring junior staff
Ensure alignment with ASHRAE concepts and project-specific standards
Required / Preferred Qualifications Working knowledge of Niagara AX and/or Niagara N4
Proficiency in AutoCAD ; MS Visio experience strongly preferred
Familiarity with ASHRAE principles as applied to controls design
Experience supporting large, complex facilities strongly preferred
Ability to interpret mechanical plans and sequences without hand-holding
Strong attention to detail and documentation quality

Someone who asks “will this work in the field?” before issuing drawings
Someone comfortable owning their designs, not just drafting them
Experience preferred — training is available on Company Provided software,- babysitting is not
