Job Title: Mechanical DrafterJob Description

The Mechanical Drafter designs and prepares detailed machine documentation and layouts that incorporate customer specifications, including electrical schematics and related drawings. This role supports sales, engineering, and customer service by creating accurate sales layouts, producing parts drawings and bills of materials, and occasionally interacting directly with customers to clarify technical requirements. The position offers the opportunity to work in a small, collaborative team where individuals learn multiple aspects of the business and contribute across functions.

Responsibilities

Design machine manuals that incorporate customer specifications, ensuring all relevant electrical schematics and electrical drawings are accurately included.

Create detailed sales layouts for quotations based on direction and input from sales engineers.

Look up, prepare, and print parts drawings for secondary projects and customer spare parts, including generating and updating the necessary bills of materials (BOMs).

Collaborate with sales and engineering teams to translate customer requirements into clear and accurate drafting and design documentation.

Answer incoming phone calls on occasion and assist with obtaining and clarifying customer specifications and technical requirements.

Use SolidWorks, CAD, and related drafting tools to produce precise 2D layouts and 3D models for mechanical designs.

Apply mechanical drafting and engineering principles to ensure designs are manufacturable, accurate, and aligned with internal standards.

Incorporate GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) practices into drawings to ensure clarity and consistency in dimensions and tolerances.

Maintain organized records of drawings, revisions, and associated documentation for projects and spare parts.

Support other drafting and design tasks as needed, contributing to multiple roles within a small, flexible team environment.

Essential Skills

Experience using SolidWorks for mechanical drafting and design.

Proficiency with CAD programs, including 2D and 3D modeling tools.

Ability to design and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and related documentation.

Knowledge of mechanical design principles and mechanical engineering concepts.

Experience with mechanical drafting and drafting/design workflows.

Understanding and application of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) in drawings.

Ability to create and manage bills of materials (BOMs) associated with parts and assemblies.

Strong attention to detail and accuracy in drafting and documentation.

Effective communication skills to work with sales engineers and occasionally interact with customers.

High school diploma or GED equivalency.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering preferred or equivalent job experience.

Experience using DraftSight 2D or similar tools for layout creation.

Experience using AutoCAD for drafting and design tasks.

Background or familiarity with electrical drafting and electrical schematics.

Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects in a small-team environment where individuals often take on varied responsibilities.

Comfort working in a customer-facing capacity on occasion to gather specifications and clarify requirements.

Work Environment
This role operates in a small, close-knit company of approximately 17 employees, including two other drafters, fostering a collaborative environment where team members often wear multiple hats and learn across functions. The standard work schedule runs Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The position is primarily office-based, working with SolidWorks, CAD tools, and related engineering software on a daily basis. The Mechanical Drafter will be customer facing on occasion, engaging directly with clients to clarify specifications and support project needs.

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fresno, CA.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $39.00/hr.
