Position Objective
To perform work in the maintenance of zoo buildings, equipment, and grounds.
Principal Responsibilities
Perform general maintenance, repair, renovation and alteration of buildings, offices, exhibits, enclosures, paths, benches, sidewalks, equipment, structures, roofs, gutters, and other facilities.
Carry out specialized shop work including metal, cement, wood, painting, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and stone work.
Troubleshoot problems involving electrical, structural, plumbing, and equipment repair or replacement.
Perform preventive building maintenance duties.
Prepare reports on work performed and materials used as required.
Operate a vehicle or other equipment such as forklift, tractor, or bobcat if required.
Maintain vehicle and equipment through cleaning, greasing, and refueling.
May perform ground maintenance work as required.
Enforce the Society's visitor rules and regulations, and those of the Department of Parks of the City of New York.
Perform related tasks and duties as required.
Qualification Requirements
Valid current driver’s license.
Knowledge of building maintenance procedures, machinery, equipment, and tools required for public building repair.
Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, and ability to read and follow assembly instructions.
Strong safety practices, hazard recognition, and proficiency with hand and power tools.
Ability to represent WCS professionally and maintain positive relationships with employees, colleagues, government agencies, contractors, and the public.
Physical Requirements
Outdoor work in all weather conditions; manual dexterity with hand tools and power tools; operation of equipment such as tractors and forklifts.
Tasks may involve climbing, kneeling, bending, navigating uneven terrain, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
Availability to work weekends, holidays, evenings, and special events; ability to respond to emergencies.
Salary
Hiring Rate: $53,997.00
Incumbent Rate: $66,347.00
