Department
Academics Advising within the Division of Academic Affairs supports undeclared and under‑major undergraduate students. The mission is to partner with students for informed academic and career decisions, promoting holistic development.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide holistic academic advising to all enrolled students from matriculation to graduation.
Advocate for student needs, ensuring successful enrollment, engagement and completion.
Collaborate with faculty, department chairs and other advising teams to develop inclusive and equitable practices.
Design and execute programs that increase retention, reduce equity gaps and accelerate degree progress.
Maintain student tracking database and use campus advising tools for outreach and reporting.
Deliver compassionate support to students experiencing academic or personal challenges.
Participate in professional development for advising best practices.
Essential Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in behavioral sciences, public administration, business administration or related field and two years of professional experience in a student services area.
Master’s degree in a related field may substitute one year of experience.
Knowledge of organizational management, research methods and interview techniques.
Ability to interpret and apply program rules, advise students individually and in groups, and plan and coordinate programs.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Background check required; conditional offer may be rescinded if disqualifying information is found.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with safety, civility, information security and non‑discrimination policies.
Data analysis and presentation skills.
Knowledge of campus operations and programs.
Proficiency in Office365, student engagement platforms (e.g., EAB Navigate, Ellucian Degree Audit).
Special Working Conditions
Reliable transportation is required for occasional off‑campus events. The position is a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act.
