Overview

Detroit Mobile Equipment Mechanic – Hourly pay rate $38 - $39.50 per hour. Work hours are Monday through Friday, 6:45 a.m.–3:00 p.m., with one scheduled weekend (Saturday & Sunday, 6:45 a.m.–3:00 p.m.) per month. There is mandatory overtime that could extend past 3:00 p.m. and mandatory call-ins (on time each week) that could require repairs during off hours.
Rate of pay may be adjusted based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
Responsibilities

Ensure operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on motors, pneumatic tools, hydraulic systems, conveyor systems, and production machines; follow diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer’s instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshoot malfunctions.
Locate sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments such as laser alignment tools, stethoscope, tachometer, infrared camera, ultrasound and vibration analysis tools.
Remove defective parts by dismantling devices, using hoists, cranes, and hand/power tools.
Determine changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts, using tape measures, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, and straightedges.
Mechanical/Technical understanding including lubrication, pumps, piping systems, welding/cutting (stick, MIG, TIG, and torch), bearings, and control valves.
Perform troubleshooting, repairs, and preventive maintenance activities necessary to keep mobile industrial equipment operating efficiently. This includes electric motors, internal combustion engines, diesel engines, pneumatic tools, hydraulic systems; capable of reading schematics and following diagrams, operations and parts manuals, manufacturer’s instructions, and engineering specifications; and troubleshooting malfunctions.
Schedule mobile equipment repairs with plant-designated mobile equipment third-party contractors.
Communicate to all affected employees the status of repairs through email and continuous improvement communication boards.
Efficiently track equipment reliability, downtime, repairs costs, and assist in fleet management.
Qualifications

Safety and housekeeping are the first consideration in all activities. Consistently demonstrate understanding/compliance with all plant and departmental safety rules, standards, and model programs.
Report any unsafe condition or defective equipment to your supervisor immediately. Demonstrate knowledge of when, where, and how to use standard and specialized personal protective equipment (PPE).
Must be able to perform the essential physical requirements necessary for the position; meet the essential physical requirements and negotiate steps and ladders.
Demonstrate ability to protect yourself and co-workers from potential safety hazards.
Responsible for performing all assignments as delegated by Supervisor.
Understand verbal and written instructions from plant supervision and efficiently perform assigned tasks.
Demonstrate the ability to cooperate with other workers in safety, quality, and production/maintenance and understand the importance of completing assigned tasks and their relationship to other requirements.
Must have mechanical aptitude related to fabrication, power/hand tool operations, welding/cutting operations, etc., and be flexible in the tasks performed.
Must be able to pass the USG Mechanical Skills Assessment.
Willingness to pursue additional training if required.
Must have the ability to safely operate plant mobile equipment.
Responsible for maintaining a set of personal tools as required by the Engineering Maintenance Department and demonstrate capability of safely operating said tools.
Must be a self-starter and complete tasks with little guidance or supervision.
Demonstrate good safety and attendance.
Must be able to perform requirements of Reliability Performance Model and Continuous Improvement programs.
Take an active role in all plant safety and continuous improvement initiatives as required by supervision.
