Organizational Unit Overview
The School of Dental Medicine is composed of ten administrative offices and four academic departments. The administrative units include the offices of the Dean, Vice Dean, Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Associate Dean for Research, Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, Associate Dean for Extramural Clinical Practices, Assistant Dean for Dental Education and Informatics, Assistant Dean for Educational Support and Faculty Development, Assistant Dean for Academic Success and the Assistant Dean for Business Operations and Financial Affairs. The four academic departments are Surgical Sciences, Pediatric Dentistry, Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, General Dentistry and Foundational Sciences.

Job Duties
This position will provide administrative support to the Chair of the Department of Surgical Sciences by handling a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to scheduling meetings; maintaining a calendar; coordinating travel and reimbursements; managing the department teaching and clinic schedules; managing, reporting and reconciling department time and leave in Kronos; managing the department budget and accounts; providing regular and accurate communication with various administrators within the School, Health Science Center and university; communicating and interacting with students and patients to give general information about the School of Dental Medicine and the Department of Surgical Sciences.

This position is not eligible to participate in the NC Teachers’ and State Employees’ Retirement System (TSERS). While this position is not automatically eligible for the NC Teachers’ and State Employees’ Retirement System (TSERS), new hires transferring from another North Carolina state agency and current ECU employees transferring internally who had been enrolled in TSERS in their previous employment will continue participation in TSERS. These individuals may be able to elect to participate in ORP if they had not been offered that option at the time of their initial enrollment into TSERS.

Minimum Education/Experience
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Administration in higher education or health professions preferred. Experience working with a financial budget through the preparation, and monitoring of budget documents and reports.
