Organizational Unit Overview
The School of Dental Medicine includes ten administrative offices and four academic departments. The administrative units include the Offices of the Dean, Vice Dean, Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Associate Dean for Research, Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, Associate Dean for Extramural Clinical Practices, Assistant Dean for Dental Education and Informatics, Assistant Dean for Educational Support and Faculty Development, Assistant Dean for Academic Success, and Assistant Dean for Business Operations and Financial Affairs. The four academic departments are Surgical Sciences, Pediatric Dentistry, Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, General Dentistry, and Foundational Sciences. The mission is to educate dental care providers and serve the underserved population of North Carolina through clinics located in Ross Hall in Greenville and Community Service‑Learning Centers throughout the state. Appropriate dental auxiliaries and clinical staff are needed to operate these clinics.
Job Duties
Provide clinical support to dentists, dental residents, and dental students in the School of Dental Medicine clinics and Community Service Learning Centers.
Assist with 4‑handed dentistry; prepare patients and manage patient flow.
Access and chart patient information as directed by clinical staff, monitor patients’ blood pressure and sedation as required.
Participate in dental exams and procedures.
Follow OSHA standards for hand washing, masking, gloving, and disposal of contaminants.
Monitor patients while they receive treatment, perform dental X‑rays as ordered, and transport patients as needed.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalency and completion of an accredited dental assisting program; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Preferred: CPR certification, Radiology certification.
Employment Information
Employment in this position provides eligibility to participate in the UNC Optional Retirement Program (ORP), various voluntary supplemental retirement plans (401k, 403b, 457), and multiple voluntary options for Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance, and supplemental plans including Critical Illness, Flexible Spending Accounts, Cancer, and Disability. The position is not eligible to participate in the NC Teachers’ and State Employees’ Retirement System (TSERS). New hires transferring from another NC state agency and current ECU employees transferring internally who were enrolled in TSERS previously may continue participation in TSERS.
