Maintenance Technician
Saint-Gobain Abrasives, Travelers Rest, SC, United States
Performs general maintenance and repairs on a wide variety of machinery and equipment, including preventative maintenance on production machinery, other equipment, and facilities as required. Diagnoses maintenance problems, disassembles, and makes repairs and adjustments as necessary.
JOB RESPONSIBILITY
Responds to operational difficulties using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments to diagnose, dismantle and repair equipment, referencing schematics, diagrams, manufacturer's specifications, and operational manuals.
Initiates purchase orders for repair parts and materials; conducts problem correction and test runs on machinery to ensure proper operation.
Develops and adheres to a preventative maintenance program to keep equipment in a safe and proper operating condition.
Performs building repair and maintenance services as needed, including carpentry, masonry, welding, painting, plumbing, and electrical repair.
Assists in moving and installing equipment.
Provides assistance in storage, transfer, and handling of hazardous materials.
Ensures tools and machines are kept clean and in proper condition for use.
Maintains accurate records and logs of work performed, material usage, and results.
Follows all company policies and safety procedures, including the wearing of required protective equipment.
Responds to after‑hours operational emergencies.
JOB SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS
Applicant must be able to work with deadlines and production schedules.
High School diploma or equivalent required; technical school training, apprenticeship program, or equivalent preferred.
Must possess skills and knowledge in utilizing shop math and precision measuring instruments.
Must be proficient in at least two of the following: electrical and mechanical diagnosis and repair; CNC diagnosis and repair skills required.
Electrical controls diagnosis and repair; industrial machinery installation and setup.
Knowledge and skill in plumbing, HVAC diagnosis and repair, metal fabrication, and welding.
Must have knowledge of safety measures for dealing with electrical and mechanical hazards.
Adherence to safety standards and standard operating procedures; knowledge of those procedures as part of daily processes.
Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, charts, specifications, and follow verbal and written instructions.
