Primary Purpose

Responsible for system availability, security, disaster recovery, performance, version upgrades, software patch installation, and optimization of database infrastructure. The role requires knowledge of database infrastructure and schema design and supports the implementation of database standards and practices. Operates under the direction of senior database staff while adhering to department, corporate, and industry standards and practices.

Essential Functions

Assist in the planning and implementation of improvements to existing database configuration, security, and architecture.
Ensure that reliable database backups are performed.
Execute database schema change releases in various environments.
Administer and maintain reporting and business intelligence infrastructure.
Participate in the design of technology infrastructure to support performance, availability, and architecture requirements in collaboration with other IT resources.
Develop and maintain custom code and scripts to support database management requirements.
Tune performance of queries, database objects, and database configurations.
Perform database system maintenance and upgrades.
Attend database‑related design reviews.
Perform system access privilege grants and maintenance.
Perform audits of database security privileges.
Assist in consulting for development projects.
Participate in a collaborative team environment functioning within the SCRUM (agile) methodology.
Support efforts to evaluate, select, and implement database management tools and components.
Demonstrate attention to detail and adherence to policy and procedure.
Ensure that database practices comply with department and corporate standards and industry best practices.
Support corporate compliance with regulatory requirements such as HIPAA.
Demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
Serve in the 24/7 on‑call rotation.
Other duties as assigned.
Physical And Other Requirements

Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending the spine at the waist.
Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
Mobility: The person may occasionally move between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
Communicate: Frequently communicate with others.
ARUP Policies and Procedures: Conduct oneself in compliance with all ARUP Policies and Procedures.
Sedentary Work: Exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently.
Fine Motor Control: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than the whole hand.
On Call: Ability to respond to emergencies after normal working hours and on weekends.
