Work Schedule: Ally designates roles as (1) fully on‑site, (2) hybrid, or (3) fully remote. Hybrid roles are generally expected to be in the office a certain number of days per week as indicated by your manager. Your hiring manager will discuss this role’s specific work requirements with you during the hiring process. All work requirements are subject to change at any time based on leader discretion and/or business need.

The Opportunity
The Accountant II position is within the Controller’s Group supporting the Auto Finance business. Reporting to the Manager of Auto Finance Accounting, the Accountant II plays a critical role in providing accurate, timely, and relevant financial information, advice, and transaction support to key stakeholders of the company’s largest operating unit. Under general supervision, the position will be responsible for accounting‑related activities for the retail loan product.

The Work Itself

Assist with the month‑end accounting close process (e.g., ensure timely completion of recurring / non‑recurring journal entries, review financial statement variances for reasonableness, etc.)

Ensure completeness and accuracy of account reconciliations and consistent/proper use of general ledger accounts

Prepare select footnote disclosures supporting external reporting process

Ensure SOX compliance over designated processes and controls

Support the internal and external audit process

Assess current accounting practice and ensure appropriate application of accounting policy

Coordinate with other functional areas, such as Forecast, Planning and Analysis (FP&A), Risk, Tax, Treasury, IT, etc.

Assess current operating environment and drive process improvements utilizing latest technology for automation

Minimum Qualifications

1+ year of relevant experience

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related, or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

1+ years of work experience in accounting, assurance, or related

Experience with technical accounting functions such as account reconciliations and preparing and posting journal entries, a plus

CPA highly preferred

Proficient computer skills including MS Office applications, especially Excel for reporting

Strong project management skills and ability to effectively prioritize tasks

Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills

Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Base Pay Range : $55,000 – $95,000 USD. An individual's position in the range is determined by the specific role, the scope and responsibilities of the role, work experience, education, certification(s), training, and additional qualifications.

Incentive Compensation : This position is eligible to participate in our annual incentive plan.
