Payroll Specialist

We are growing! This is an exciting opportunity for a Payroll Specialist to join our collaborative team. This individual will be responsible for processing US and Canadian payrolls within a shared service team environment, as well as onboarding duties for the local team. This position is onsite at our headquarters in Sterling Heights.
Responsibilities

Manage multi-jurisdictional payroll processing for U.S. and Canadian employees.
Reviews and finalizes employee onboarding documentation
Maintain employee records and process employment changes (new hires, terminations, status changes, compensation updates)
Monitors timesheet completion to ensure timely preparation for payroll import.
Respond to authorized requests for payroll data such as mortgage applications, verification of employment, unemployment claims, court garnishments, etc.
Prepare and reconcile payroll reports including general ledger and PTO accruals
Prepare and Submit 401k contribution reports
Supports all HR audits
Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll laws and taxes
Works with tax services to ensure that state tax registrations are completed when required.
Address employee payroll inquires in a timely and professional manner
Troubleshoot, reconcile, and resolve payroll discrepancies with a sense of urgency; process adjustments as required
Qualifications & Experience

Associate degree in HR, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. Equivalent combination of education and applicable experience may be considered.
Minimum of 2-3 years of experience processing payroll.
UKG, SuccessFactors and ADP Team Pay Preferred.
Solid understanding of payroll regulations, State, Federal local tax codes, and employment laws.
Advanced in Microsoft Excel
Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
Acts with high level of confidentiality and discretion.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to work both independently and with a diverse team
Must be reliable, resourceful, and a problem solver.
Canadian Payroll experience strongly desired.
