Job Summary
The Department of Health & Kinesiology (HK) is a dynamic, research-driven unit within the University of Utah’s College of Health. HK focuses on enhancing health, quality of life, and human performance through scientific knowledge related to physical activity and wellness. The department integrates cutting-edge research, innovative teaching, and real-world application, supporting undergraduate and graduate programs in kinesiology, community health, emergency medical services, and health education. It plays an essential role in supporting student success, advancing research initiatives, and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration.
This position serves as a critical operational and relational hub within the department, providing consistent, direct interaction with faculty, staff, and students to support daily functions and broader departmental initiatives. Given the department’s size, scope, and impact, the role is essential to maintaining effective communication, coordination, and overall success across HK’s academic and research missions.
Responsibilities
Handles the administrative matters regarding employment record management, payroll, and related procedures.
Helps maintain employment record management system.
Submits, reviews and evaluates personnel action forms.
Makes budgetary recommendations and adjustments.
Writes and edits program-related publications and promotional or educational materials.
Reviews changes in university policy, federal regulations and contractual requirements and coordinates implementation procedures.
May develop departmental procedures as needed.
Other department tasks as assigned.
Officers can make hiring recommendations for departmental employees. Disciplinary actions generally require coordination with the Department Chair or other administrator. The position may involve the interpretation and application of university policy and regulations, reconciling complex financial data, and ensuring orderly flow of information into university systems.
Minimum Qualifications
1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience.
Office Administrator I: Bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 2 years of work experience or Master’s (or equivalency).
Office Administrator II: Bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 4 years of experience or Master’s + 2 years.
Office Administrator III: Bachelor’s + 6 years or Master’s + 4 years.
Office Administrator IV: Bachelor’s + 8 years or Master’s + 6 years.
