
Fabrication Shop Manager

Responsibilities
Shop Operations & Leadership
Manage day‑to‑day fabrication shop operations, including personnel, workflow, and production scheduling
Supervise and lead shop employees, including hiring, training, performance management, and disciplinary actions
Ensure fabrication activities comply with OSHA requirements and company safety policies
Oversee equipment usage, maintenance, calibration, and repair coordination
Plan and prioritize work orders to meet project schedules, cost targets, and quality requirements
Collaborate with engineering and project teams to interpret drawings, specifications, and work instructions
Implement continuous improvement initiatives related to safety, quality, and efficiency
Enforce cleanliness, organization, and proper material handling within the shop
Materials, Receiving, and Logistics Oversight
Oversee receipt of incoming materials and components, ensuring quantities, condition, and documentation are verified
Ensure materials and components are properly tracked, staged, and issued throughout fabrication activities
Maintain oversight of inventory accuracy and material control processes
Identify material shortages, damages, or discrepancies and coordinate resolution
Oversee preparation, packaging, and shipment of completed assemblies and equipment
Coordinate outbound shipping logistics to Client locations, including carrier coordination and delivery schedules
Ensure shipping documentation, labeling, handling instructions, and Client requirements are met
Maintain visibility into material flow and shipment status to support project commitments
Quality & Compliance
Ensure quality control processes are followed and non‑conformances are addressed promptly
Support QA activities, inspections, corrective actions, and audit readiness
Ensure production, material, and shipping documentation is maintained and accurate
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade schooling preferred
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a fabrication or manufacturing environment
At least 2 years of supervisory or management experience
Strong working knowledge of fabrication processes (welding, machining, assembly, or related trades)
Working knowledge of OSHA safety requirements
Working knowledge of warehouse receipt, delivery, and material handling operations
Familiarity with transportation, shipping, and logistics coordination for fabricated or assembled equipment
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and specifications
Strong leadership, organizational, and problem‑solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
Associate or bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, engineering, operations, or a related field
Experience coordinating shipments to Client or project sites
Experience in a regulated or government‑contracted manufacturing environment
Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience
Familiarity with ERP, inventory, or job‑tracking systems
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
Ability to work regularly in an industrial shop environment
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs as required
Occasional exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and moving equipment
Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
Additional Skills
Excellent internal and external customer service and communication/interpersonal skills.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Ability to deal with conflicts and stressful situations.
Ability to work on multiple assignments and projects.
