We are seeking an experienced Fabrication Shop Lead Technician to oversee daily shop operations, lead production teams, and support high-quality fabrication work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This hands‑on leadership role is ideal for someone with strong technical fabrication expertise, supervisory experience, and a commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.
This position serves as a critical bridge between production, engineering, and management while helping drive efficiency, mentorship, and on‑time project execution.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Shop Oversight
Supervise, train, and mentor fabrication technicians and shop personnel
Assign daily workloads and manage project priorities to meet production schedules
Provide hands‑on leadership while fostering a collaborative, accountable team environment
Support employee development through coaching and cross‑training
Production & Fabrication Operations
Review blueprints, schematics, and CAD drawings to guide fabrication and assembly work
Oversee daily production activities to ensure work is completed accurately and on schedule
Perform and support complex fabrication tasks including welding, cutting, assembly, and machine operation
Operate and maintain shop equipment including welding machines, CNC machinery, shears, press brakes, and saws
Quality Control
Perform and oversee quality inspections to ensure compliance with specifications and standards
Troubleshoot production issues and implement corrective actions as needed
Maintain a high standard of workmanship and continuous improvement
Safety & Compliance
Enforce OSHA standards, shop safety procedures, and proper PPE usage
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment
Ensure equipment is properly maintained and operating safely
Inventory & Resource Management
Monitor inventory levels of raw materials, tools, and supplies
Coordinate purchasing needs with management and project teams
Support efficient resource planning to minimize downtime
Qualifications
Required
Proven experience in metal fabrication, welding, assembly, or manufacturing
Previous lead, supervisory, or shop management experience
Strong ability to read blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics
Hands‑on experience with fabrication equipment and shop machinery
Ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and maintain production schedules
Strong problem‑solving and leadership skills
Preferred
CNC, welding, or advanced fabrication expertise
Experience in quality control and process improvement
Knowledge of OSHA and manufacturing safety standards
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand for extended periods
Ability to lift 50+ pounds
Ability to work in an active shop/manufacturing environment
