Summary

Serves as a full‑time Supervisor in the Care in the Community Department of the Nebraska‑Western Iowa Health Care Services. Has direct accountability to the Chief – Care in the Community and Assistant Chief – Care in the Community.
Qualifications

Must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement – 04/27/2026.
Time‑In‑Grade: Current Federal employees who held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet the time‑in‑grade requirements by the closing date. For a GS‑09 position you must have served 52 weeks at GS‑07. The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held in Federal service. An SF‑50 showing time‑in‑grade eligibility must be submitted. If the most recent SF‑50 is within the past year, an additional SF‑50 clearly demonstrating one‑year time‑in‑grade is required. Former employees applying for reinstatement, as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointments, are subject to the same requirements.
Specialized Experience: At least one (1) full year of experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS‑7) in the Federal Service, directly related to the work of the position. Experience must include leading, managing, and coordinating community care in a medical facility; preparing reports for senior executives; identifying and solving problems; interpreting complex medical and technical terms; and effective communication verbally and in writing.
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. Must have successfully completed a master’s or equivalent graduate degree, or two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or an LL.B/J.D. if related. One year of full‑time graduate education is considered either the number of credit hours the school determined or 18 semester hours. Transcripts are required for credit.
Combination: Applicants may combine education and experience. Must meet the total qualification requirement for GS‑11 as described above. Transcripts are required for credit.
Highly preferred: Individuals with community care experience.
Physical Requirements

Work is primarily sedentary but may require standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying of charts, clinical folders, and forms within the medical center. Incumbent frequently walks to various parts of the medical center including patient care areas. Must possess a valid State‑issued driver’s license; no copies of the license should be submitted with the application. A pre‑employment examination or evaluation may be required. Physical demands or environmental factors may be addressed at the time of evaluation or examination.
Duties

Set up training programs within the Care in the Community Department.
Participate in a variety of Medical Center committees relevant to the position.
Ensure proper documentation in the electronic health record.
Monitor daily Mail Merge, Audio Care, Right Fax, My HealtheVet, and VeText.
Determine the past effectiveness of operations, assess current status, and forecast the future of the program.
Identify areas for improvement, develop appropriate processes, and implement the improvements.
Provide updates to the Chief – Care in the Community, Assistant Chief – Care in the Community, and Care in the Community Nurse Manager.
Assist employees daily with operations per the Cerner Work Schedule: Monday – Friday – 7:00 am – 3:30 pm. Telework: This position is not authorized for telework.
