Position Summary

Walter’s Soul Foods Café is seeking a strong, dependable, and experienced Hands-On Restaurant Manager who can lead by example and work directly alongside the team in daily operations. This is not a desk job—the ideal candidate must be willing to manage, cook when needed, supervise staff, solve problems quickly, and ensure excellent customer service while maintaining the high standards of our soul food brand.
The manager must be a leader who can handle both front-of-house and back-of-house responsibilities while keeping operations smooth, profitable, and customer-focused.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Operations
Oversee all daily restaurant operations

Open and close the restaurant properly

Ensure food quality, consistency, and presentation standards are met

Monitor cleanliness, sanitation, and food safety compliance

Maintain smooth kitchen and dining room operations

Handle customer concerns and resolve complaints professionally

Kitchen Management

Assist with cooking during busy periods when needed

Supervise kitchen staff and prep team

Monitor food production and portion control

Ensure recipes and standards are followed consistently

Manage steam table setup and food holding quality

Reduce waste and control food cost

Staff Management

Hire, train, schedule, and supervise employees

Hold staff accountable for attendance, performance, and professionalism

Enforce company policies and standards

Conduct team meetings and coaching sessions

Maintain strong employee morale and discipline when necessary

Financial Responsibilities

Control labor costs and scheduling efficiency

Monitor inventory and ordering

Reduce theft, waste, and unnecessary expenses

Assist with budgeting and sales growth strategies

Review daily sales reports and cash handling procedures

Customer Service

Ensure guests receive excellent hospitality

Build strong relationships with regular customers

Maintain a welcoming and professional environment

Protect the reputation of Walter’s Soul Foods Café

Qualifications

3+ years restaurant management experience preferred

Soul food or high-volume restaurant experience strongly preferred

Strong kitchen knowledge and ability to cook when necessary

Leadership and team-building skills

Experience with scheduling, inventory, and labor management

Strong problem-solving ability under pressure

Excellent communication and customer service skills

Reliable transportation and flexible schedule

Ability to work weekends, holidays, and long shifts

Physical Requirements

Must be able to stand for extended periods

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds

Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced kitchen environment
