Juvenile Probation Officer

Serves as the first point of contact for juveniles, families and community members entering the Midland County Juvenile Probation Department offices. Answers telephone calls to the Department and directs callers to appropriate staff members. Monitors cameras of entry point to Department and grants entrance to juveniles, families and community members through the intercom system. Responsibilities may also include completion of clerical assignments to assist management staff, data entry into multiple databases containing juvenile justice data and other administrative duties as assigned.
Enters all juvenile justice data into the Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS)/Juvenile Justice Information System (JJIS) as required by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). Coordinates CJIS/JJIS data entry with other county departments and agencies. Sends correspondence to juveniles and families regarding certain juvenile referral dispositions. Reviews sealing of records data provided by DPS, completes notice of certification of juvenile records eligible for sealing and provides notice of eligibility to the juvenile court. Completes requested juvenile records checks for outside agencies or former probationers. Collects money for fee payments and restitution payments from juveniles and families and enters payment data into the Juvenile Case Management System. Completes departmental filing, as needed. Assists Juvenile Probation Administrators with uploading documents into JCMS. Assists with corrections from JCMS audits under the direction of the Department's JCMS Data Coordinator. Assists Department staff with completing Private Service Provider Contractual Monitoring and Evaluation Reports for non-residential and residential services as defined by TJJD. Regular and consistent attendance is required. Must arrive at work on time, prepared to perform assigned duties and work assigned schedule.
Minimum high school diploma, or its equivalent, some college preferred, plus at least two years of experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Computers, Microsoft word, Microsoft Excel, QuickBooks, Microsoft Access, standard office practices and procedures; and general bookkeeping practices. Operate office equipment such as copy machine and facsimile machine, read manuals and memos, write messages, letters, and memos, perform mathematical calculations, perform bookkeeping functions, communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public. Must have a valid Texas Driver's License. Obtain and maintain TJJD certificates/requirements. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 20 pounds, such as files, stacks of records, or other similar objects. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus. Must reside in Midland County.
