Patient Care Tech - IMCU Full Time Nights

Job Description
The Patient Care Tech reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

Responsibilities

Collect, label, and transport specimens as assigned.

Obtain 12‑lead EKGs.

Discontinue saline locks and indwelling urinary catheters.

Discontinue telemetry monitoring packs.

Perform bladder scan.

Perform point‑of‑care testing as appropriate.

Assist patients with personal hygiene and nutritional needs as identified on the patient’s plan of care.

Perform hourly patient rounding in collaboration with the clinical RN.

Obtain and document patient care data as directed by the clinical RN and as noted in the plan of care.

Assist with patient ambulation and positioning as directed in the plan of care.

Assist the health‑care team members in meeting individualized patient needs.

Respond to patient call lights and requests for assistance in a professional and timely manner.

Assist the health‑care team in maintaining a clinical care environment that supports patient, family, and staff safety.

Assist with post‑mortem care.

In collaboration with the Nursing Manager/Director, Clinical Nurse Specialists/Nurse Clinicians and NM Academy, identify and meet learning needs, complete annual required training, and update knowledge through periodic in‑services.

Participate in performance‑improvement activities that advance innovative processes to achieve unit targets and exceptional performance.

Additional Responsibilities as Safety Attendant/Telesitter Monitor

Maintain visual observation at all times with no distractions.

Provide prompt notification to the care team if a patient requires assistance.

Monitor and maintain patient environmental safety, and notify the care team if any hazards are discovered.

Perform care checks in accordance with the care plan.

Follow appropriate policy.

Additional Responsibilities Under Department Leadership

Answer, screen, and direct incoming calls.

Facilitate obtaining a hard copy of the patient’s advance directive if indicated and place it in the Electronic Medical Record.

Manage admissions through Electronic Bed Board.

Assure patient‑care unit readiness for EMR downtime and facilitate data recovery following downtime.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

Completion of an accredited CNA program and listed on the state of Illinois CNA Registry, OR nursing student who has successfully completed one clinical rotation and provides written verification.

BLS certification through American Heart Association.
