Overview
Academic Advising Services in the College of Health and Human Performance provides students with information, guidance, and support as they pursue educational goals.
Responsibilities
The Academic Advisor advises students on academic matters, guides them toward academic success, keeps accurate records, teaches freshman seminar, and handles recruitment.
Assumes additional responsibilities as needed such as registration duties, monitoring student performance, discussing study skills, and suggesting campus resources.
80% – Advises prospective and current students about academic requirements and course selection using advising systems; disseminates information on university policies; maintains student files; audits records for curriculum, major, and graduation requirements; compares transcripts; coordinates communications on scheduling and resources; monitors retention, progression, and graduation; refers students with discrepancies; evaluates and maintains records; monitors registration and academic performance.
15% – Assists in recruitment events including Open House, Pirates Aboard, orientation sessions for incoming students, and virtual academic sessions.
5% – Assists in preparation of special reports related to enrollment; performs other duties as assigned.
Contingent upon availability of funds.
Qualifications
Master’s degree.
Teaching, advising and/or counseling experience in higher education.
Knowledge of college student development.
Strong interpersonal, analytical, organizational, and customer‑service skills.
Strong computer skills and ability to work in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment.
