SOCPF Police Officer II (Campus Patrol Officer II)

$25.96/hour – $34.39/hour (Full-time).
Note:
Trainee Status at $24.96/hour.
Summary:
Provides police coverage to the New Hampshire Hospital and the Governor Hugh J. Gallen State Office Park South through enforcement of federal, state, and local laws and established policies and procedures, as well as providing general and specialized services to patients/residents, employees, and citizens.
Qualifications
Education/Experience:
Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of 2 years of education and experience after high school. Experience must be as a certified police officer (full-time or part-time certified), security officer, correctional officer, active-duty military, or mental health worker providing direct care to patients.
License/Certification:
Valid driver’s license.
Age/Citizenship:
Must be at least 21 years of age and a U.S. citizen at date of examination.
Eyesight and Hearing:
Minimum 20/100 uncorrected and 20/40 (near) / 20/30 (distant) each eye; normal depth and color perception; normal hearing sufficient for job.
Physical Agility Test:
Must pass a physical agility test designed to measure ability to perform essential job functions.
Background Investigation:
Comprehensive, including fingerprint-based criminal background check, motor-vehicle record check, polygraph, and psychological examination.
Medical Examination:
Comprehensive, with no physical conditions prohibiting essential functions.
Drug Testing:
Unannounced drug test required.
Current Division of State Police law enforcement employee requirements:
Service record free of any major infraction of divisional discipline for the past 3 years.
Must pass fingerprint-based criminal background check and motor-vehicle record check for suitability to exposure to confidential information.
Trainee Option:
Candidates with 1+ years of relevant education and experience may be considered and hired in trainee status for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
None.
After-Hire Requirements
NH full-time police officer certification within the established timeframe and within 6 months of hire; maintain certification throughout tenure.
Completion of the Department of Health and Human Services Mental Health Worker Training Program within the timeframe established by NH Hospital and no later than 12 months after hire.

Job Duties
Conduct patrols and inspections on foot and in marked police vehicles to ensure security and protection of multiple agencies in the campus, emphasizing the New Hampshire Hospital and mental health issues.
Appear in court as a witness in traffic violations, criminal cases or other administrative hearings; prepare cases for prosecution and serve warrants, domestic violence orders (DVOs) and juvenile petitions as applicable.
Monitor movements and behavior of potentially dangerous patients/residents and respond to high-risk situations including psychiatric emergencies to prevent harm to self and others.
Intervene in disputes to restore peace and ensure public safety, including confronting hostile persons, mediating disputes, and advising of rights of process.
Assist with admission of patients to a state institution, search for and locate AWOL patients, transport patients to and from institutions and court, both in and out of state.
Write investigative and other reports, including citations, affidavits, complaints, and warrants using proper grammar. Gather information in criminal investigations by interviewing victims, witnesses and suspects.
Enforce parking and traffic regulations, initiate traffic stops in marked cruisers, issue verbal and written warnings and tickets, make in-custody arrests, and investigate traffic crashes.
Arrest suspects, forcibly if necessary, using handcuffs and other restraints; subdue resisting suspects using approved weapons and bodily force in self-defense.
Search people, vehicles, buildings and outdoor areas to detect and collect evidence and substances for criminal offenses and infractions.
Unload, load, aim and fire handguns, and other firearms from various positions under stressful conditions as required by certification standards.
