
Medical Assistant

Job Duties
Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
Escorts patients to exam rooms and ensures proper identification.
Performs and documents vital signs, clinical care quality measures and medical history information.
Remains proficient and knowledgeable regarding the use and documentation requirements within information technology systems within the established scope of practice.
Assists physicians with examinations, various diagnostic procedures, and may perform EKGs, venipuncture and injections in the office, using appropriate skills to provide quality care to patients.
Adheres to HIPAA privacy and security requirements.
Orders clinical supplies to maintain inventory and facilitate smooth operations of the office.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED.
Specialized Diploma for NJ only: graduate of an accredited post‑secondary medical assisting education program that includes at least 330 hours of instruction and training in intramuscular and subcutaneous injections.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Familiarity with medical office procedures.
Ability to utilize practices, tools, and techniques for communicating with customers.
Knowledge of the common types of equipment or devices used in healthcare and the ability to use them in patient care.
Knowledge of health information and appropriate documentation methods, and the ability to record medical histories, symptoms, vital signs, medications, diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, tests, and medical results in written or electronic form.
Ability to read and interpret patient charts regarding medication sheets, diets, histories, physicals, and tests, and to apply this knowledge appropriately to patient care.
Knowledge of clinical skills necessary for patient care, including history taking, therapeutic planning, monitoring, and optimizing medication therapy and clinical treatment outcomes.
Knowledge of factors contributing to quality patient care and the ability to influence these factors positively.
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential from the American Association of Medical Assistants within 180 days.
Physical Demands
Lift and carry up to 25 lbs., frequent sitting and standing, frequent keyboard use, and the ability to kneel, bend, squat, and perform CPR as required by the role.
Salary
$18.29 to $26.06 hourly.
