Position: Nurse I (Staff Nurse)
Shift: Regular Weekend Day; Additional shifts possible (Days, Evenings, Nights, Weekends)
Pay: $5,746.66 – $6,779.25 monthly (Texas‑B‑20)

As a Nurse I in a maximum‑security psychiatric facility, you will work under the supervision of the Charge Nurse or Nurse Manager, perform essential inpatient psychiatric care, and contribute to a therapeutic milieu focused on recovery for patients.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients’ nursing care needs, including physical, behavioral, psychiatric, and social aspects.
Identify nursing diagnoses and formulate an initial plan of care based on assessment data.
Establish unit routines, develop, and maintain the therapeutic milieu.
Observe patient behavior and status, document findings, and report to the psychiatrist, other recovery team members, and supervising nurse as needed.
Carry out nursing interventions as identified in the multidisciplinary recovery plan.
Administer medications and treatments as ordered by the physician, maintaining accurate medication administration and controlled drug records.
Provide training to other staff members on psychiatric nursing principles, unit routines, and milieu management.
Initiate and monitor the appropriate use of restraints or seclusions to ensure safety of patients and staff.
Participate in disaster response, recovery, or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activations, which may require alternate shift patterns or locations.
Perform additional duties as assigned by supervision or agency needs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of nursing techniques and procedures.
Knowledge of medical diagnoses and procedures.
Knowledge of accepted medical treatment programs.
Knowledge of community health and nursing care principles, practices, and procedures.
Skills in the care and treatment of patients.
Computational skills and competency with applicable software.
Ability to provide patient care and maintain accurate records.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Qualifications
b>Licensure and Credentials : Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Texas or a reciprocal state under the Nurse Licensure Compact. Alternatively, a temporary permit may be issued while awaiting license issuance.
b>Transportation : Must possess a valid Texas driver license (or obtain within 90 days of hire). If holding an out‑of‑state driver license, provide an original certified driving record as per HHSC Fleet Management policy.
Additional Requirements
Graduation from an accredited nursing program or a four‑year college/university with major coursework in nursing.
Pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks (CANRS, Nurse Aid, Medication Aide, Employee Misconduct, LEIE).
Compliance with HHSC immunization policy, including vaccination against hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, and influenza as required.
Possess flexibility in work hours, with potential overtime and extended hours.
