This position is temporary part-time (approximately 20 hours a week) with an anticipated length of about 6 months. The position is with the Immunization Program, which provides services in Aurora, Englewood, and various community-based mobile sites to provide protection from vaccine-preventable diseases.

Duties and Responsibilities

General Description of Job:

Registered Nurses (RNs) serve as an integral part of Arapahoe County’s Public Health Department, providing nursing care and services at clinics, home visits, and community outreach events with a focus on promoting health and disease prevention.

Direct Patient Care

Provides safe, effective, evidence-based patient care, including clear, accurate documentation, and referrals. Uses critical thinking skills and nursing expertise to assess patients and care for their health.

Performs direct patient care during home visits.

Maintains medical expertise, skills, and abilities to follow established processes and guidelines aligning with evidence-based care practices.

Collaborates with team members to provide resources and care/treatment options within the home setting. Escalates patient care situations as appropriate or necessary.

Documents patient cases and complies with timely documentation standards for patients and employees.

Community Outreach

Actively participates in and provides patient care and consultation with human services.

Collaborates with community members (e.g., school personnel, childcare providers) to form partnerships that improve community health outcomes.

Responsibilities and Leadership (Senior Nurse)

Senior RN duties include serving in a lead capacity while performing RN duties and providing program leadership to professional and support staff, including on-site supervision of day-to-day activities.

Lead accountability includes performing and delegating nursing tasks, interpreting program policy and procedures, and working on special projects as assigned.

Assist personnel with technical expertise in public health services and assist Public Health Nurses with resolving complex issues.

Serve as a liaison between Public Health Nurses and program leadership for day-to-day operations.

Assist in evaluation and implementation of nursing programs and recommend program policy and procedure through the supervisor to the manager for review and implementation.

Coordinate organization, assignment, and utilization of nursing personnel to facilitate staffing coverage.

Instruct staff in methods, techniques, and procedures utilized in assigned programs and services.

This position is for the Immunization Program to temporarily support clinics in Aurora, Englewood, and at mobile sites.

Requirements

Respond to public health emergencies, incidents, and events. Participate in exercises and drills, complete trainings, and initiate corrective actions as required by law and regulations.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) from an NLN- or AACN-accredited program.

Must be licensed to practice as an RN in Colorado or a Compact State (within first 3 months of employment). BLS and CPR certification.

Preferred Education and Experience

Master’s degree

Pre-Employment and Post-Employment

Pre-employment testing including motor vehicle record check; background check.

Stay up to date on required training, certifications, and licensures post-employment.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Work is conducted in homes and community settings, with travel to other locations. Frequent driving and field work.

Exposure to variable environments, including potential hazards and infectious agents; use PPE as required.
