Sterile Processing Technician

in the

Sterile Processing

department. This 100% onsite opportunity requires you to be based in the greater Chicagoland area. Under the supervision of the Director and Supervisor, the Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for all duties relating to processing of sterile supplies, preparation of instruments, and decontamination of patient‑related equipment. The role includes monitoring sterilizers and maintaining sterilization records, issuing surgical supplies and instrumentation, maintaining inventory and PAR level data, ensuring professional conduct, and promoting effective interpersonal and interdisciplinary relationships.
Essential Job Functions

Fill requests and issue surgical supplies and instrumentation
Restock and maintain inventory levels of surgical supplies and equipment
Exhibit timely, satisfactory completion of assignments with minimal assistance
Demonstrate a positive, supportive attitude to patients, families, and other personnel consistently in emergent and non‑emergent situations
Receive supplies from outside areas, ensuring supplies entering sterile processing are free of external contaminants
Maintain sterilization records
Decontaminate patient care equipment according to hospital guidelines
Perform biological monitoring of sterilizers and document in log
Sterilize instrument trays within specified parameters
Maintain confidential patient and department information
Required Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent
Completion of Sterile Processing Program
Current certification preferred as a ‘Certified Sterile Processing and Technician’ from the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) – or complete certification within 6 months of hire
Preferred Qualifications

1‑year experience in an acute care hospital
Physical demand ranges from constant sedentary work with a certain amount of sitting, walking and standing to occasional light work involving lifting up to 20 pounds of force and/or excess of 100 pounds of force constantly to move objects
