
Part-Time Mental Health Counselor SW/C II (Remote)

Position Summary
Part‑time mental health therapist working after hours on weekends, primarily remote with occasional on‑site duties. Provide tele‑health crisis services to inmates statewide, consult correctional staff and administrators regarding mental health needs, including developmental disabilities, mental illness, and other special‑needs populations.
Responsibilities
Provide tele‑health, after‑hour mental health services at an advanced practice level to a special population of inmates with mental illness.
Collaborate with other staff regarding the mental health needs of inmates after normal business hours.
Ensure accurate information system mental health needs levels, including psychiatric and developmental disability codes.
Coordinate emergency and non‑emergency transfers for inmates experiencing acute mental health needs.
Provide clinical direction to non‑clinical staff in mental health care and treatment of inmates.
Ensure continuity of care by making appropriate referrals and providing necessary documentation for receiving units, facilities, or agencies.
Document electronically in an accurate and timely manner to maintain comprehensive inmate mental health records.
Monitor inmate treatment, listen to inmate concerns, and provide counseling and direction.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, or marriage and family therapy from an accredited institution.
Valid Colorado or State participant in the Social Work Licensure Compact licensure as a Licensed Social Worker (LSW), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate (LPCC) with current enrollment in a master’s program, or Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist Candidate (LMFTC) with current enrollment in a master’s program.
Must attach transcripts evidencing name, institution, degree, and conferral date.
Preferred Qualifications
Graduation with a master’s or doctoral degree in a mental health field from a program accredited by CACREP, CSWE, AAMFT, COAMFTE, or APA.
License eligible as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Work, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, or Licensed Psychologist.
Experience providing mental health treatment in a correctional environment.
Required Competencies
Ability to provide professional mental health treatment to inmates.
Efficiency and independence in performance.
Participation in a 24‑hour mental health on‑call rotation.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Collaborative skills with facility programs and external agencies.
Maintenance of requisite registration, permit, or licensure.
Ability to work with a diverse population of inmates and provide comprehensive clinical documentation.
Proficiency in reading and comprehending English and communicating fluently in English.
Ability to create accessible documents and technical content following plain language guidelines with accessibility in mind.
Conditions of Employment
Must be 21 years of age or older.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a safe driving record.
Must have a high school diploma or GED.
Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
Must successfully complete the six‑week Colorado Department of Corrections Basic Training, including required modules and examinations.
Must possess the physical ability to complete required defensive tactics training.
Will be exposed to oleoresin capsicum during training and assignment.
Must comply with all background investigation and drug‑screening requirements.
