Position Summary
The Residential Care Specialist (RCS) performs routine residential care duties and selected non‑professional services under the supervision of the Director of Residential Services, Program Manager and RCS Supervisor. Duties include providing a safe and therapeutic environment while caring for children and adolescents in a manner that considers safety, residents’ rights, and comfort. The RCS continuously observes residents’ behavior, mental status, and activities, reports this information to the appropriate clinical staff, assists with activities of daily living, and encourages independent behavior. Other typical duties are assisting with admissions, discharges, and transfers, and participating in implementing the resident’s individualized plan of care.

Responsibilities

Follows instructions given by Program Director/RCS Supervisor as outlined in policies and procedures.

Provides care to children and adolescents (9‑18) in a manner that considers safety, residents’ rights, comfort, level of development, and the therapeutic environment.

Assists with admissions, discharges, and transfers of residents.

Assists with resident trips outside the center and transportation in hospital van as needed.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.

Prefer a minimum of two years of college in psychology, social work, mental health, or related fields.

Experience in dealing with the emotionally disturbed is preferred.

Employees must be in good standing (employment/corrective action history, evaluation, etc.) to be considered for internal transfers.
