Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced General Maintenance Worker who is responsible for maintaining various ALC buildings utilized for aircraft repair and manufacturing and maintenance of aircraft support equipment. The role interacts with all ALC divisions through direct contact or liaison to provide essential repair and maintenance services.

Location: US Coast Guard, Elizabeth City, NC 27909

Hourly Pay Rate: $21.19

Hours: Full time. M-F, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Flexibility required for overtime needs.

General Maintenance Minimum Requirements

Minimum three (3) years of related experience.

Ability to operate basic hand tools.

Ability to operate machinery and equipment.

At the time of hire, the contract employee must possess, or obtain, and maintain a valid Class C Driver License.

Pass pre‑employment background check and drug screen.

Obtain and maintain federal badging and clearance requirements to work at this secure federal site.

General Maintenance Responsibilities

Redecorates walls, woodwork and fixtures.

Trim work, exterior T‑111 siding repair, ceilings of various designs; planning and layout of work according to blueprints, drawings or sketches for fabrication.

Competent in framing layout, erecting metal and wood studded walls, installing rafters, finished paneling, trusses and beams, hanging and finishing drywall, hanging doors, door frames, and hardware.

Knowledge and ability to operate hand shears, saws, drills and other basic hand tools to erect or dismantle shelving, partitions and to repair or assemble furniture.

Assist in facilities maintenance tasks, assembly/disassembly and relocation of modular built‑in furniture, delivery of supplies, and cleanup.

Operate power jacks and transporters to move heavy objects while performing facilities maintenance.

Assist one or more workers in skilled maintenance trades with less skilled duties such as supplying tools, cleaning work area, assisting mechanics, and performing other unskilled tasks as directed by mechanics.

May perform specialized machine operations.

Set up and support special event preparation, power‑wash cleaning of building exteriors, removal of scrap material from renovation sites, cleaning rugs as needed, grass cutting, gardening tasks, unloading trucks, assembling/disassembling or relocating furniture, limited painting of interior and exterior facilities, and movement of industrial material within the ALC complex.

Operate and clean heavy hand and power tools, power mowers, wheelbarrows, and power‑washing equipment; clean and oil industrial equipment (including lawn maintenance equipment) and make minor operational adjustments.

Perform manual tasks both indoors and outdoors in various working conditions and run errands outside of buildings for pick‑up or delivery of heavy materials.

General cleaning of smoking shelters within the ALC industrial campus.

Work in concert with the Operations Division Branch to provide FOD control in and around ALC hangars and taxiways by operating a FOD Sweeper or a Vacuum Truck.

Act as an assistant to Electrician Maintenance Mechanics, General Maintenance Mechanics, Maintenance Carpenter and Maintenance Painter under the supervision of senior positions, operating electrical and mechanical equipment indoors and outdoors in various working conditions.

General Maintenance Other Responsibilities

Assist in special events such as Change of Commands, Retirements, and Training under the direction of the Lead/Senior Electrician, maintaining the Audio System, setting up and dismantling tables, chairs and platforms, removing trash, and walking down industrial areas for FOD removal after the event.

General Maintenance Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and move throughout the building for extended periods, up to 85% of the workday.

Ability to perform tasks involving climbing stairs or ladders, working on ladders, balancing, stooping, kneeling, or crawling.

Ability to access and work in confined or constricted spaces as required by job duties.

Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.

Tasks may require crouching, bending, or reaching in various environments.
