
Logistics Analyst

Position Scope
The primary mission is to ensure the timely delivery of product utilizing the corporate Transportation Management System (TMS) for carrier selection based on cost, service and capacity. This role is focused on facility shipment execution across multiple modes (LTL, truckload, rail, intermodal) ensuring there is ample transportation capacity to meet customers on time delivery expectations. The ideal candidate will manage their book of business by building relationships with customers, carriers and facilities; ensuring operational excellence execution and problem solving/resolving transportation challenges in a timely manner to support distribution of goods domestically.
Position Responsibilities
Transportation liaison between plants, carriers and customers. Daily focus will be on shipment execution ensuring shipments pick up and deliver to plan, managing ~30,000 – 35,000+ shipments annually. The team supports regions and shippers across the Supply Chain network and is tasked with ensuring on time pickup and delivery of freight.
Execute based on production and planning, quickly adapting to changes to solid operational flow.
First line of defense in understanding network trends, delays, dwells and other exceptions that impact GPI’s ability to deliver a world class transportation product. Utilize KPIs, review lane by lane performance and work with procurement to adjust route guides as necessary to reduce spot exposure.
Daily Leads Shipment Plan Execution for assigned facilities: coordinate recovery of shipments, coverage of shipments, track shipments, and ensure timely delivery and pickup.
In case of disruptions, the Operations team addresses the disruption, informs stakeholders and ensures timely resolution.
Manage trailer pools, ensuring ample equipment availability at time of production and timely turn of equipment to meet customers on time expectations.
Respond to customer complaints and notify customers of shipment delays, delivering follow through on resolutions to ensure the best customer experience. Provide real time customer experience by working in a fast paced operating environment.
Understand the process and requirements, analyze data, notice trends and drive customer experience without compromising on time.
Weekly escalate BU operational issues to Supervisor, such as mode changes, GPI location short lead times and discuss operational items for improvement.
Route Guide Management / Carrier Relationship And Spot Buy
Carrier route guide management: holding carriers accountable to accept awarded volume.
Solicit, negotiate, and award spot quoted loads to meet or exceed the logistics cost/ton by BU goal according to department guidelines, procedures and approval processes.
Understand performance metrics to assist with driving business results; pull data from numerous databases and perform ad‑hoc reporting and analysis as needed.
Systematically escalating problems or variance in information and data to the relevant owners and teams.
Communicate, both verbal and written, as data and findings are critical to tracking trends and performance inefficiencies.
Weekly and monthly provide carrier operational info (carrier tender time‑outs, tender rejections, etc.) and route guide adds & changes (provide analysis of savings/increase in cost per change requested) to Managers.
Actively work with contracted carriers on meeting/exceeding operational requirements (service levels, equipment commitments, resolve failures prior to requesting removal) and strengthen partnership.
Implement and maintain company policy and standard operating procedures to ensure compliance with the USDOT requirements.
Maintain continuous contact with transport service providers to understand their daily operations, build relationships and secure and coordinate uninterrupted transportation services and materials flow to and from North American markets.
Maximize cost reduction and service opportunities through leveraging total corporate volume with truckload, less‑than‑truckload, and intermodal freight carriers.
Actively maintain individual metrics that support individual, dept, and company goals.
Position Specifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Logistics. Equivalent experience considered.
3‑5 years as a Transportation Specialist/Planner utilizing a TMS (MercuryGate preferred) to manage shipments and transportation operations or logistics experience.
Stable organizational skills, detail‑oriented, and interpersonal skills.
Strong written & verbal communication skills.
Must be able to prioritize workload and deliver to timelines.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Microsoft Excel Intermediate‑Advanced.
Possess intellectual curiosity and initiative.
Must be creative, resourceful, organized & able to work well independently & as part of a team. Hold self accountability to executing on organizational goals.
Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced operational environment and handle multiple tasks.
Ability to collaborate and communicate with all levels of employees and management.
Ability to use technology to solve business problems.
Preferred / Plus
Intermediate‑Advanced MS PowerPoint, Visio skills, MS Excel skills.
Analytical skills and experience with BI / BW or similar reporting tools.
Paper manufacturing industry experience and systems (SAP preferred).
