Residential Tutor Mentor – TRIO Upward Bound Programs 2026

Basic Function

Under the supervision of the Director and Academic Specialists, the Resident Tutor Mentor will be primarily responsible for supervising, advising, and tutoring assigned participants of the Upward Bound program and providing assistance in the planning, organization, and implementation of program activities as needed.
Representative Duties

Use professional ethics; implement and enforce applicable goals, objectives, policies and procedures; supervise students in a group living environment to ensure their safety and well‑being during recreational hours, evenings, and weekends.
Attend Residential Staff Training Week (June 9 – 12, hours vary with training schedule).
Work schedule: June 14 – July 25, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm; 7:00 pm – 11:00 pm, Monday – Thursday (hours may vary).
Sunday schedule: June 21, June 28, July 5, July 12, July 19, 4:00 pm – 11:00 pm (tentative).
Attend all assigned UB course sessions and support course instructors during in‑class learning.
Monitor and evaluate students’ academic and social progress; ensure students are prepared for class and attend regular classroom sessions.
Support and monitor academic progress in Upward Bound core curriculum subjects: Math (through pre‑calculus), English Literature, English Composition, Foreign Language, and Laboratory Science.
Implement direct tutoring services or refer intervention strategies/recommendations to UB administrative staff.
Advise and provide support to students in personal, social, and academic areas, including life choices, academic improvement strategies, and study skills.
Serve as the primary liaison between administrative, instructional, and residential staff.
Maintain discipline and harmonious relations in the classroom, residence hall, and all program areas in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Assess residence hall problems, assimilate facts, process viewpoints, and make decisions in compliance with program guidelines.
Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy residential environment; report incidents, adhere to applicable rules, policies, and regulations; respond to emergency situations and direct to appropriate personnel.
Complete administrative tasks (e.g., class attendance, check‑in/check‑out procedures) promptly.
Ensure all students adhere to the SFSP meal pattern during dining hours and complete daily counts of all qualified SFSP meals for the assigned day.
Participate in staff orientation and attend all staff meetings.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination equivalent to: two years of college‑level coursework in good academic standing at an accredited postsecondary institution with experience demonstrating leadership qualities, teamwork, and constructive communication with high school students.
Preferred Qualifications

Upper‑classmen or graduate students in good academic standing, experience working with income‑eligible, first‑generation students, and completion of at least one college‑level math course.
Additional consideration given to applicants who have taken at least one American Sign Language course, have taken and passed Calculus I, or have experience with tutoring and classroom management.
Licenses and Other Requirements

Must possess or obtain First Aid and CPR certification. Position requires living on campus Sunday – Thursday.
Physical Abilities

Detect to understand appropriate written correspondence; operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copier, and computer printer; communicate to exchange information in person, in writing, on the telephone and by email; stationary position for extended periods of time; move or transport light objects; position self to store and/or retrieve files.
Hiring Range

$17.00 per hour
