About this Role
The Field Quality Specialist - Day Shift is responsible for implementing and maintaining the field quality assurance and quality control program at the Savannah River Site (SRS) in Aiken, SC. The role performs field surveillance, inspections, and audits to ensure that construction, maintenance, and facility operations activities comply with NQA-1 standards, DOE requirements, approved procedures, and project quality plans.
What You’ll Do
Perform field quality surveillance, inspections, and holdpoint verifications for construction, maintenance, and operations activities to ensure compliance with NQA-1, DOE Orders, approved work packages, and project quality plans.
Document and track nonconformances (NCRs), corrective actions, and quality observations; coordinate resolution with craft supervision, work control, and engineering personnel.
Review and verify that approved procedures, drawings, specifications, and work instructions are current, properly controlled, and being followed correctly in the field.
Support receipt inspection of materials, equipment, and components to verify conformance with procurement documents, certificates of conformance, and applicable codes and standards.
Participate in pre‑job briefs, construction readiness reviews, and quality‑related meetings; provide QA input and guidance to field supervision and craft personnel.
Prepare clear and thorough quality inspection records, surveillance reports, and daily field quality logs in compliance with QGS records management requirements.
Support internal quality audits, external DOE oversight inspections, and customer surveillance activities; assist in the preparation of corrective action plans as required.
Perform other duties as assigned in support of QGS quality assurance and project objectives.
What You Bring
Required Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED required; Associate or Bachelor degree in Engineering Technology, Quality Management, or a related technical field preferred.
Minimum of 7 years of field quality assurance or quality control experience in a DOE, nuclear power, or regulated industrial construction/maintenance environment.
Working knowledge of NQA-1 quality assurance requirements, DOE Orders, and applicable codes and standards (ASME, AWS, ANSI, etc.).
Experience performing field surveillance, nonconformance tracking, and corrective action management.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and quality management documentation systems.
Preferred Education and Experience
Bachelor degree in Engineering Technology, Quality Management, or related field.
Direct Savannah River Site or DOE major facility experience.
Certified Quality Inspector (CQI) or Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) designation through ASQ.
Licenses / Certifications
Required Licenses/Certifications
Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Savannah River Site access badge and pass all required background checks and DOE security requirements.
Preferred Licenses/Certifications
DOE Q or L Security Clearance.
AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or equivalent.
OSHA 30‑Hour General Industry or Construction certification.
Supervisory Responsibilities
No direct supervisory responsibilities; provides quality guidance and oversight to craft and subcontractor personnel in the field.
