Project Manager

Engtal, Kansas City, MO, United States

Project Manager – Construction (MEP / Energy-Focused Projects)

Hybrid – Kansas City (project-based travel ~10%)
A growing, design-build construction firm focused on energy efficiency, infrastructure upgrades, and technically complex building systems is looking to hire a Project Manager to lead projects across commercial, institutional, and public sector environments.
This is a business that sits in a really interesting space between construction, engineering, and building performance, delivering projects that improve how buildings operate — from mechanical and electrical systems through to full-scale upgrades.
They’re looking for a hands-on Project Manager who can lead from the front, manage stakeholders effectively, and drive projects through from preconstruction to closeout.
The Role

Lead the full lifecycle of construction projects, from pre-con through delivery and closeout
Manage budgets, schedules, procurement, and subcontractors across multiple projects
Coordinate closely with internal engineering teams, subcontractors, and clients
Take ownership of risk management, cost control, and project performance
Drive strong stakeholder communication across owners, architects, and contractors
Oversee contract management, change orders, and subcontract negotiations
Support continuous improvement across project delivery processes
Mentor junior team members and contribute to team development
What They’re Looking For

Proven experience as a Project Manager within construction
Background in mechanical, electrical, or general contracting environments
Experience working on commercial, institutional, or public sector projects
Strong understanding of preconstruction, budgeting, and risk management
Confident managing multiple stakeholders and complex project environments
Exposure to MEP systems, energy efficiency, or building upgrades is highly desirable
Why This Opportunity?

Work on technically interesting projects that go beyond traditional construction
Join a company operating in a growing niche around energy and building performance
Clear opportunity to take ownership of projects and grow within the business
Collaborative culture with a real focus on development and continuous improvement
Hybrid working with flexibility built in
Strong benefits package including healthcare, retirement, and paid leave
Investment in training, development, and long-term progression
This role is well suited to someone who enjoys the construction side of project delivery but wants to get closer to more technical, systems-driven work — particularly across MEP and energy-focused projects.
If you're open to something that sits slightly outside of traditional GC work, this is a strong option to explore.
