Responsibilities
Diagnose and repair issues related to system performance or failure.
Plan and layout for assigned jobs, estimate labor hours and materials, and maintain accurate records of labor and materials ordered.
Operate hand and power tools essential to perform all duties.
Monitor building conditions in the energy management system.
Work independently or with others, coordinating work with campus customers to understand needs and schedule tasks.
Oversee outside contractors and supervise apprentices and/or summer/casual wage hires to ensure Colgate standards are met.
Record work orders, materials, and labor in a timely and accurate manner.
Qualifications
At least one of the following:
Certificate from a 4+ year accredited plumber apprentice program.
Graduation from a 2 year trade school with plumbing skills plus one year journeyperson level plumbing skills.
Proof of four or more consecutive years as a full-time journeyperson in a field that uses the knowledge and skills of a plumber.
Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays for emergency repairs and shifts required.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a high-pressure steam environment.
Ability to weld steel, stainless steel, aluminum and other specialty metals.
Working knowledge of control system principles, steam boilers, water conditioning equipment, and commercial kitchen equipment.
Experience diagnosing and servicing LP and Natural Gas boiler systems, water heaters, and related equipment.
Education
A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent, or a combination of education and experience yielding comparable skills.
Certifications
A current valid driver’s license, in accordance with the University’s Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Use Policy is required.
Physical Requirements
Outdoor work and occasional extreme temperatures as required.
Follow all procedures to conduct work activities safely, including PPE and safe handling of chemicals and tools as outlined by University policies and the Facilities Management team.
Report unsafe conditions immediately to Management and/or Environmental Health & Safety.
Wear a NIOSH-approved respirator and personal protective equipment as required.
Work in a variety of environmental conditions, including confined spaces and heights.
Lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
Stand, stoop, bend, reach and climb.
