Summary
The LTC Charles S. Kettles VA Medical Center is seeking a Full-Time Registered Nurse - Inpatient Staff aligned under the Associate Director of Patient Care Services (ADPCS).

Qualifications

English language proficiency: proficient in basic written and spoken English.

Graduate of a nursing school approved by ACEN or CCNE.

Or in a master’s level bridge program with coursework equivalent to a bachelor’s in nursing; may be appointed on a temporary basis before completing the bridge program (VA Handbook 5005 – Appendix G6).

Foreign graduates: must possess a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration; equivalency validation required for foreign education higher than an associate degree.

Graduate nurse technician exception: may be appointed at the entry step of the grade and level applicable to the completed nursing education on a 120‑day temporary appointment while actively pursuing licensure.

Basic education: associate degree (ADN) or diploma in nursing; no additional professional nursing experience required for Nurse I – Level I, II, and III. B.S.N., M.S.N., or related master’s or doctoral degrees may substitute for experience depending on level.

Physical requirements: visual acuity, keen hearing, clear speech, manual dexterity. Must be able to walk, stand, stoop, sit, bend, pull, push, and transfer patients. May be exposed to infected patients and required to don protective clothing. Must complete annual employee health requirements, e.g., TB screening.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible and accountable for individual nursing practice and for delegating tasks to appropriate team members.

Formulate a plan of care based on nursing assessments and pursue continuous improvement in care provided to patients and families.

Manage workload, organize tasks, and complete assignments efficiently and appropriately.

Participate in interdisciplinary care development, implementation, and evaluation.

Establish therapeutic relationships, integrate patient preferences into care decisions, and promote effective communication and teamwork.

Adhere to VA policies and the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses.

Maintain competency, apply evidence‑based practice, and contribute to unit level performance improvement activities.

Mentor, precept, and teach colleagues to improve outcomes in the immediate practice setting.

Lead educational initiatives and support the professional growth of others.

Participate in unit based educational activities, continuing education requirements, and other professional development opportunities.

Competitive salary with regular increases and potential performance awards.

Work schedule Monday–Friday (7:00 pm–8:00 am). Telework not available; position is not virtual.

Paid Time Off: 50 days per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 Federal holidays).
