Role Summary
The Mental Health Virtual Care Centre (MHVCC) is seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to oversee a community‑based Rehabilitation Program. Using a 12‑week step‑up/step‑down model, the program supports a small caseload of consumers who benefit from intensive (daily support Monday‑Friday) rehabilitation interventions to prevent hospital admission or facilitate transition home after discharge. The programme operates a hybrid model combining face‑to‑face assessments with telehealth appointments based on clinical suitability.
Responsibilities
Lead clinical care by collaborating with consumers, carers, and the multi‑disciplinary team (Clinical Manager, Senior Occupational Therapist, Mental Health Nurses, Lived Experience Peer Worker) to provide a package of care prioritising functional and personal recovery.
Provide expert medical assessment and management of patients within the department/service.
Coordinate and supervise daily rehabilitation interventions and ensure seamless transition from hospital admission to community discharge.
Develop and implement clinical protocols and quality improvement activities.
Educate and mentor junior medical staff, undergraduate and postgraduate students, and other hospital staff.
Participate in research relevant to the role and the needs of the department.
Qualifications
Registration or eligibility with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA). Candidate must provide AHPRA registration number.
Fellowship of The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) or equivalent specialist recognition.
Evidence of continuing medical education and self‑monitoring/audit practices consistent with scope of practice.
Proven capacity in delivering high‑quality psychiatric services in a relevant environment.
Demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervising undergraduate and postgraduate trainees.
Demonstrated professional behaviour and effective communication as a senior medical practitioner.
Experience and commitment to research in the field.
Ability to work effectively in a multi‑disciplinary team across multiple sites.
